what has your experience been at buffet/aycte restaurants when paying OOP for a 10 year old?

DD turned 10 last August. We went to Ohana prior to a cruise, paid OOP and no one asked her age and she was charged the child's price. Naturally, the reservation was made in MDE and her age is correct on her profile to make the reservation. She looks her age to my mind, but could pass for 9, 10 or 11. She's not like some of her peers who look like grown women.

We are going next month for our trip, no dining plan. Eating at Ohana again, Cape May, Biergarten. Just wondering what to expect for pricing. I fully expect to pay adult prices for her and thats fine, just wondering what other's experiences have been.

Didn't you enter ages when you booked the reservation?

No, ages aren't entered into the actual reservations, you just tap the profiles of those dining. The ages is listed in the profile. She was 10 for our 'Ohana reservation last Sept but still charged as a child. That is where my confusion is.

I kind of fall into: if they ask tell the truth; if they don’t ask, pay what is charged.

I agree. They never asked, and I didn't even really think about it until later when I looked at the receipt and realized that for the first time she was a Disney adult.

and I realize this can vary across the board and CM to CM. One time, we were at Garden Grill and my 6 year old son was not feeling well. He ordered a coke and then laid his head on my lap and slept through the whole meal without eating a thing. I didn't ask to be comped his meal, but our server noticed him sleeping and didn't charge us for him.

I think tapping on a profile with an associated age is like entering the age. They have it. Sometimes you'll find a server who does something nice and charges the lower price. My guess is that it will vary a lot.

Well, you really only have 2 choices if her age is not asked and she is billed as a child. You pay what is charged and not say anything or point out to the server that you were actually under charged by telling him/her your dd's age. They may revise the bill or just let it be, chances are the latter. Do what you feel is right.

My 11 yr old is the same size as my 9 yr old...it's to the point that people ask if my kids are fraternal twins. When we were there in December, Disney knew when to charge proper pricing for the older one for all of our prix fixe meals without any prompting. I don't take the time to list all of the people in my party on my ADRs, but we were charged accordingly each time.

We went to WDW last August when DS was 9 and again in December after he had turned 10. He was charged the adult price for the skillet at WCC and for his meal at O'hana in December. No one asked. I just assumed they saw his age in his profile. I would be prepared to pay the adult price. If you are charged the child's price, pixie dust!

We've been asked our kids ages everywhere this week and we haven't been to a buffet yet. Via Napoli, Sci-Fi and BOG all asked their ages. I don't know if that was to determine whether to give them an adult or child menu or what.

They always ask when you check in. Lots of people say “child” for any kid under 18 because, you know, that’s how we define child in the real world. They’ll usually ask for ages after that. Maybe they assumed that your definition of child was the same as theirs and didn’t ask.

Except dining isn't separated by child and adult. It's guest 3-9 and guest 10+. So if the guest is 10+, I'd expect to pay that price.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but in probably 50+ TS dining experiences at Disney, I'm not sure I've ever been asked the ages of my children. We've done dining plan 3x and no dining plan more times than that. I can't remember a single person asking. Oh well, it doesn't really matter, I was just curious.

I would go in expecting to pay the correct adult price and consider it a bonus if they charge her child rate. Assuming they don't ask her age, in which case I'm always an honesty is the best policy type person.

I'm a bit confused though because whenever I check in for a meal they confirm my party with x number of children and x number of adults, I'm assuming that's based off of what it is in the ADR (and that is based on what is in each profile). I travel with my son who is 10 for our next trip and all of our ADR confirmations say 2 adults and last year when he was 9 they said 1 adult/1 child.

It's difficult to justify paying $40 for a buffet when a 10yr old child eats a couple chicken fingers and a slice of pizza.

I don't think any WDW restaurant has a "real world" justifiable price, except V&A. You pay for the experience and you pay because it's Disney. It's just part of the trip.

My grandnephew who will be w/ us at WDW this summer will turn 9 during the trip. His mother already said she's sending his ID as he's tall for his age.
