I read this yesterday in my wallstreet journal! Its no wonder with the outrageous fees tacked on to the cars now, not as many people are renting!
I got my car from Dollar and the base rate is 125 and once everything is added on its 164.18! thats 39.18 extra.
They said expect the prices to continue to go up with 3 of them un bankruptcy protection now. They were questioning how many were going to follow.

Just to clarify, the additional fees are generally beyond the control of the rental car companies. These are taxes and surcharges leveled by state and local government authorities. There hasn't been too much of a change in the fees being charged, it's just that the base rates have gone up so much that the fees have naturally gone up as a percentage of the higher base rates.

No reason to be concerned. Budget is just going through reorganization.

ballgame.....

they really do not have to worry about changes in fees when most of the add ons are %......

so the higher the price the higher the return in taxes and airport concession fees will be....

one time you might pay 20$ for concession fees

the next time 10$

thus when they base things on percentage .....the breakage for the "government" endless "cash grabs" could be considerable
