We need to attend a wedding in the Detroit area (haven't heard where exactly yet) and I think I read here that there's a beach town on Lake St. Clair, northeast of Detroit?

(I don't mean the Upper Peninsula/Lake Superior although I'd love to go there sometime!)

Does anyone have any info about a beach town, and an inexpensive but nice place to stay? Thought it would be fun to spend another night. TIA.

Not sure what time of year you are attending the wedding. Anything that is lakefront will go for prime dollar. There are plenty of public beaches in St. Clair County - not sure once you get past St. Clair County and into Macomb/Wayne counties. Michigan doesn't have a lot of "tourist" times so when the time is right, they take advantage of it. I live in St. Clair County (Port Huron area) and wanted to take my family to Mackinac Island - OMG - it is cheaper to take them to Disney for a week! Good Luck!

Thanks!

But is there also one on Lake St. Clair? Like St. Clair Shores?

Port Huron is a city and Marysville/St. Clair/Marine City are small little towns on the St. Clair River, which is what the Detroit River turns in once you get north of Lake St. Clair.

(Marine City has a LOVELY bed and breakfast, but I would assume that it's too far for your wedding if you're looking for places on the Lake.

To be honest, Lake St. Clair is pretty to look at but the water is not clean. I grew up on the lake and the beach at Metro Beach on the lake is closed most of the time for bacteria in the water.

If I knew what city the wedding is in I could probably be more helpful.
