We're driving back on a Saturday night in June, leaving Universal to drive just far enough to hit a good deal for lodging. Have you done anything like this? Is it worth going up to Deltona or something, or is it better to stop pretty close to Universal on I-4?

Budget lodging tips heading down from the Northeast would also be welcome!

The first thing is that on a Saturday night if you are leaving later you should know where you are stopping and probably make a reservation.

Second - what price do you have in mind for what quality of accommodation?

For me, I'm looking for something under $100 with a continental breakfast in the morning or at least a Starbucks in the parking lot.

There are a lot of choices in the Lake Mary area, if you just want to get on the other side of Orlando. If you can do 2-3 hours, you will be between St Augustine and Jacksonville. We've gotten deals in Jax but never in St Aug.

Heading down from the Northeast....we always stay at the Best Western in Lumberton, NC. Clean, right off the highway and free breakfast.

I agree with the PP...make a reservation you cancel up until 6pm that day. That is prime tourist season and everyone and their brother it seems is on the 95 corridor.
