Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find affordable figure skating clothes? My daughter is getting more into skating and wants to start wearing practice dresses and tights (she likes the over the skate ones) to her lessons, but they cost so much money! Any suggestions on good brands or brands to avoid would also be appreciated. Thanks!

check with your local figure skating club, too. Sometimes they have "swaps" where people will bring in their childrens' old dresses and swap for a larger size.

You can also try consignment stores or thrift stores. Any gymnastics leotard with a skirt attached will work, also.

We're on our 5th year of skating, and our 3rd yr of synchronized skating team. It can be an expensive sport!

Capezio Factory Outlet has some skate tights & possibly dresses (Google it). I've ordered stuff from them before & been pleased.

Mondor tights are a little more expensive but they are worth every penny. I buy them online b/c they are cheaper than in the store. DD likes the over the boot with the velcro on the bottom. These tights are so high quality they almost never rip, they last far longer than any other brand we have tried.

For dresses we have bought several from the older skaters at the club. GK offers nice dresses for good prices. I bought DD 2 skirts from GK and she pairs them with a regular tshirt. This definitely helps with the budget. When DD was in the basic levels we bought competition dresses from Ebay. The prices are very good and the dresses are nice quality. I purchase crystals and add extra stones.

Good luck! Skating is such an expensive sport. This month DD needed new boots (fortunately she did not need new blades) and a new competition dress.:scared1:

I bought a few dance dresses (that I use for skating) from Discount Dance Supply. I think the dresses were around $40 (for adults, less for kids), and they are good quality. They are very similar to skating dresses, but at a much better price. They also have cheaper regular tights (about $5), which I wear under skating tights. Over-the-boot-tights are just plain expensive! I would suggest getting the thicker "fuzzy" Modors, as they will last a LOT longer. They may be a little more money per pair, but they are much easier to mend than the nylon over-the-boots (plus they are much cozier!)

Thank you all so much for the information! DD is 9 and has only been skating 1 hour a week for about a year. She's wanted to take lessons for a long time and I put it off because I'd heard it could be expensive. Now she's ready to move to the 3 hour a week classes and needs more expensive equipment, and I'm really scared for the costs after that! I'll check out all the places you all recommended so hopefully I can get her nice stuff and keep the costs down.

I did go to a skate swap and got her a really nice dress, but it's more for a competition. Unfortunately, she missed her first competition (supposed to be today) because she fractured her arm at a skating lesson 6 weeks ago. She's already back on the ice, with me anxiously watching. I'm not too sure about this skating thing!
