We are looking at taking a few overnight trips (throughout the spring and summer) to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. We are buying the ticket where you pay once and play all season till Sept.
We are taking our first trip in April, and I have been trying to find a reasonably priced but clean hotel for the overnight. We will literally be sleeping there for 1 night at a time.
Has anyone got a suggestion of a hotel in the area?

We went last summer and stayed at Patriot Place which is a time share. However I found LOTS of good info on tripadvisor.

I tend to stay at the La Quinta - it's an older hotel, but inexpensive, and includes an adequate breakfast. It's located east of the restored area, and it's not too many miles east to Busch Gardens. It's where we stayed when we had our annual passes for BGW.
And it's close to La Tolteca on Second street, where I always stop to get Mexican food.

If it's a rainy day, catch the Movie Tavern west of Williamsburg - I love catching their morning shows and having their breakfast items delivered to my seat.

The La Quinta is great - and I don't know if this will make you go or stay away - but I chaperone my school's 8th grade trip to Williamsburg every year and we stay at that La Quinta! Ha. Hopefully you don't find yourselves there at the same time we are...unless you want to share your hotel space with 70 middle school students and a few of their teachers!

We stayed at the Wyndham Patriots Place last summer, too, and had a very nice trip. As a timeshare, it's probably not the best choice for a night here or there, though.

Several years ago we also stayed at a Days Inn very close to Busch Gardens and that was inexpensive and perfectly fine - clean and safe was all we needed for that trip, and it fit the bill.

Another option is Hotwire and Priceline, both of which usually have Williamsburg hotels at reasonable rates. Check betterbidding.com to see the types of hotels you can expect and the rates people have been getting.

When we were in Williamsburg last summer, there were lots of motels along Bypass Road and Richmond Road (Route 60) advertising vacancies with rates about $40 for walk-ins. These were more like Best Western, Econolodge or Travelodge type places. Not the Ritz Carlton, of course, but from the outside they seemed perfectly acceptable to me.

Thanks for the replies. I will check into some of these suggestions. We will need 2 rooms each time (or a room that has a sleeper) as my oldest DD and her DH will be going with us. I also would prefer one with breakfast as that is one less thing to have to stop for in the morning.
Still open to more suggestions:)

I can tell you where not to stay... Do not stay at the Clarion Historic District. There were issues with dirt and mold, and the smell of must and pet odor (wet dog smell) was pungent. It was cheap, great location (walk to Colonial Williamsburg) and the staff was nice.... But my sinuses could not handle it and I regret seeing what the pillow looked like under the pillowcase.

Quality Inn Kingsmill is one of the closest hotels to Busch Gardens. Its not much to look at, but we've stayed there a few times and haven't had any problems with it. Prices are very reasonable. They have a free continental breakfast. This hotel is in a great location if you aren't familiar with the area because its on the same road at BG (I think its Rt 60), not even a mile away. Pretty easy to get to/from BG and I64. There are are couple of fast food places near by and a starbucks.

We have also stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. A little more expensive but the breakfast is better. I believe you can get a "suite" there which includes 2 beds (queen I think) and a sleeper sofa (my parents usually get this room when they take the grandkids). This hotel is more in the heart of the main drag of Williamsburg. Lots of restaurants around. Take about 15 minutes I guess to get to/from Busch Gardens from here.

There are a lot of hotels in Williamsburg so I'm sure you will find something that meets your needs.

ETA.... There are a lot of different Comfort and Quality Inns in the Williamsburg area so it can be confusing to figure out which is which. I personally do not like the Quality Inn Historic Area. We just have not had good experiences there. Nothing really wrong with the place. We just don't like it.

Thanks for the leads. My problem is that there are so many hotels in the area, that I wanted to get suggestions from people that have actually stayed there. So many choices, but I also want cheap but clean (I know...a lot to ask for:rotfl2:) since we will only sleep there. Great folks like you guys help a lot with that!

Thanks for that heads up! Will definately make a note of that:thumbsup2 We stayed at a hotel on the way to WDW one year, that reeked of urine:scared:. So gross. I found out quickly that they accepted dogs. I dont want to ever repeat that type of problem!

We have stayed at the Country Inn and Suites on Pocohantas Trail. It was okay, free breakfast, friendly staff. We like to stay at the Historic Powhattan Resort. The Powhattan are condos and are located about ten minutes from Busch Gardens.

We also like to stay in a 2 br condo at Powhatan or Greensprings when we go to Williamsburg. I'm not sure what you consider a budget price but keep in eye on groupon because they often have Williamsburg deals. I'm pretty sure they currently have one for Greensprings Resort for $69-119 per night for the 2 bedroom through April (price depends on the day). We don't like hotels as we find it easier to have kitchen facilities for breakfasts and snacks at the least.

I can't be of great help, but we did stay at the Roadway Inn and Suites a few years ago. My brother lives in Poquoson, and we were going to Busch Gardens the next day and getting in later. We just decided to get a hotel for the night instead of driving to his house then heading back early in the AM. Found this cheap spot, which was convenient to Busch Gardens. Not all that sure of the distance to Colonial Williamsburg, but sure it isn't far.

It wasn't the nicest place, but the staff was nice and it was clean. Really, as long as a place is clean we're happy. It was an older mom and pop kind of place but if I was ever looking for a hotel in the area again I'd stay there.

We stayed at Comfort Inn Central on Richmond Rd. It was clean and had free continental breakfast . They are remodeling. We stayed 4th floor that was remodeled. We payed $42 a nite. thru their website. Restaurants are close by. Pizza and steak place next door. Olive Garden and red Lobster across the street. It was about a 10 min drive to Busch Gardens and Water Country. About 4 years ago we stayed at the Quality Inn Colony. It was clean and a little closer than the other hotel. We payed about $79 a nite.

Thanks! $42 looks like a rate Im interested in:thumbsup2 I will go check them out!

I am also planning a Williamsburg trip. I am considering the Comfort Inn Central and wondered if you ended up staying there. I see mixed reviews, but it is a great price.

I live about an hour from Williamsburg. For a cheap, clean, safe place we have stayed at Sleep Inn or Quality Inn on Bypass Rd. Both are in the $50 night range and have a continental breakfast.

OP - where did you end up staying? We are a family of 5 and can't seem to find a good hotel in Williamsburg that accommodates 5 people in a room.
