Any ideas for the best GPS that won't break the bank?

Just need a basic unit, and not alot of bells & whistles :)

Any ideas?

I got a Garmin Nuvi 265T yesterday from Overstock.com for $107.xx using coupon code 146003 ($15 off $100). It gets great reviews and comes with lifetime free traffic. I've been watching prices on these since well before Christmas and finally pulled the trigger. I was hoping to wait until they got below $100, but figured the extra $7.xx was worth it for a Garmin.

I have a Garmin that I paid somewhere between $180-$200 and I love it. I can't remember what model number I have, but I absolutely love it.

Our kids got us a Garmin Nuvi 205W for Christmas. I'm sure it was around $100 or less. As a first time GPS user both DH and I find it very easy to use. It is basically just for directions. I would prefer one with traffic alert and map updates, but since it was a gift we didn't want to return it. Other than that it works great, and has a large screen.

If you internet access on your phone and an internal gps chip then download and install Google maps for mobile phones. That program pulls the maps/satellite images off the web from google and the gps on the phone puts you on the map. Actually an excellent program and it does not cost you anything as long as you have unlimited internet/data. I have it on my windows phone (Sprint) and you can actually see the dot move on google's satellite photograph as you walk across the room. Very cool... Two years ago in a fit of Boredom i walked around pop century w/o looking up, just using the gps and a google sat photograph of pop...

If you want a real gps then go for a Magellan RoadMate 1470. it is a nice unit. I paid $119 over xmas and Magellan will give you a free (shipping cost only - $10), new set of maps for the unit. Just google it and buy it off the web.

Check www.ecost.com when my old one went belly up I got a Navigon there for about $59 bucks, and I love it. I'm a field engineer and drive every day to a different TV station, so I use it literally every day, and it's great. Technically not a fancy unit, but I can't think of any features I'd want it doesn't have. I thought is would be a temporary one until I could afford a 'good' one, but that was a year ago, and I feel no need to upgrade.

it depends what your using it for alot of new cell phones have gps. You can always look on ebay I've sold a few when I upgrade for cheap in the past I'm sure I'm not the only one.

We had a little Tomtom that we got for $70 on newegg.com. It was the basic model with the turn by turn directions without the street names (ex: "In 400 feet, make a left" as opposed to with street names: "In 400 feet, make a left on Main St"). The one with the street names was about $25 more. We sold the Tomtom for $50 to someone a couple of months ago because my husband got a Droid cell phone, which has a built in GPS which is AWESOME! :thumbsup2 Check on web sites like overstock.com, newegg.com, and keep an eye out on slickdeals.net for good sales.
