Budget DVD Storage in Old Entertainment center?

We have an entertainment center that used to hold the 37" TV. Now it has a much larger TV above it and empty space. Does anyone have any ideas to use the old TV cabinet with doors to store our DVD's?
I love the EC and it matches all the other wood furniture in the house. It has 3 drawers across the bottom (which are now filled with DVD's) and a glass door on the side with shelves that hold the DirectTV box, DVD player, stereo system and gaming systems so those areas are out.
The place where the TV was is deep so DVD's could be 2 deep if I could just find a shelf design that opens and reveals the second layer.
Any ideas or where to look for shelves or directions on how to make them?

The only way you are going to be able to get shelves to do that is if you put them on lift brackets that allow the front set to be dropped out of the way when you want to access the back. You can buy those brackets at Rockler, but they are not inexpensive.

A better bet would probably be to put in tray drawers on glides, and a set of decorative doors on the front of the old TV opening if it doesn't already have doors. Again, you can buy the tray drawers at Rockler, and to make it look really best, you would really need to have a cabinetmaker make a set of opaque glass doors for you that have frames stained to match the rest of the cabinet, or a tambour that drops from the top.

I would say that if you want it to look really nice, it is probably about a $800 project; maybe $500 if you can DIY.

Mine, thankfully, does have doors, so if I ever want to do this I won't have to pay for that detail. However, we prefer to keep using it as intended, so we have kept our TV size to 32". Personally I find that to be plenty large enough; too much larger and the TV would end up overwhelming the room.

Thank you for the reply. The EC has doors where the TV went so nothing fancy is needed. I will look at movable drawers that slide in and out. You just gave me a great idea! Thanks! I knew someone would have a solution.

I would either put in drawers so you can store the DVDs horizontally or put in shelves. But if it were me, I'd just stack the DVDs inside and close the door quickly.

Or get some cheap DVD storage shelves or cubes and put them inside. Like the plastic little crates from Dollar Tree or the stuff they sell at back to school time for college kids.

Try flipworks dot com. They have sliding flip-style trays for dvd's in different widths and depths to fit almost any cabinet area.

We bought several of them a few years ago & they were easy to install & work great - not expensive either.

were a colored box family! everything we own ends up in the plastic snap togehter ones from the container store (I got them used). I love the fact I can fold them down when I dont need them. Just for you I went and put my moms dvd in one, I can get 30 dvds per box!
