Budget Buster Walgreens Pay Cuts

I feel for the OP regarding the pay cut. But what really kills me is that the CEO of Walgreens has been cleaning up the last few years. Hey if the company is suffering and you cut pay across the board so everyone can keep their jobs -that's fair enough for me. But this clown has received Non-equity bonus of $800k, $1.7M, and $2.7M the last 3 years!!!! Wake up America

I wanted to tell you how sorry I am to hear about your DH.
We've been there.
DH worked for a company for over 25 years, went to work, and stood there with other employees while they realized the employer just shut down permanently. No one saw it coming. No notice. The employer didn't even have the guts to tell anyone. He left a note on the locked door.

DH was never paid his vacation (and the 2 weeks vacation he carried over from the year before). He was never paid his sick time, etc. He never got his final paycheck. Health insurance was gone even though I was going through radiation at the time. He came home and called unemployment. What else could he do?

I wasn't sure if we'd ever get through that time. DH ended up having to take a lower paying job 2 hours away. That job eventually led to a much better job, but it uprooted our family. Cobra insurance we couldn't afford, and we couldn't get insured through anyone else because of my illness. Currently things are fine, but I didn't know how we were going to get through that horrible time.

I just wanted you to know that I totally understand what your family is going through.

Please keep us updated about your situation.

Thanks for your words of encouragment. My husband is a diabetic and has recently been sick. Going without insurance, I know something bad would happen. And we have two children. The DH did stock up on his insulin to hold him over for a few months. We also have to pay off a recent ER visit and CAT scan that cost over $2000.00 with insurance. They didn't even diagnose him correctly in the hospital. He had Shingles. But through the CAT scan they did find some large polyups in his colon and for that I am thankful! If he would have waited til age 50 it would have been really bad.

I know everything cloud has a silver lining although it looks like we are going to be in the eye of the storm for a while. I just feel blindsided and shell shocked right now.

My DH has off this week so we are getting his resume together. Since this has been his only job it's going to be easy to write.

While a pay cut can really hurt, at least it doesn't sound like they're eliminating a lot of jobs. My job title was cut by 60% last year and it was agonizing waiting for several months to see if I would keep my job. We lost some great people to early retirement and one was "left over" and had to find a different job in the company. We also eliminated all raises for three years, but I'm just happy to have a job until the next round of cutbacks. Of course, I'm doing three times the work for the same pay.

Walgreens takes our insurance for prescriptions, but for some reason was the only place I found that wouldn't give us a free flu shot. Even the local grocery store, where I wound up going on my lunch hour, took our Blue Cross with no problem.
