I found out today that my toddler will be needing ear tubes surgery ( I begged for a referral last year when our max out of pocket deductable was met). Fast forward to now, after three more ear infections, three more rounds of antibiotics and near constant fluid in his ears, I got the referral and the ENT was kinda, like, why'd ya wait so long???:confused3...

The good news is he doesn't have any hearing loss that they could tell, and his speech is on for his age... guess we will be meeting our max again this year.... i can't imagine this procedure will cost less than $5000 will it? He's going to a surgery center.

I am so glad he did not experience any hearing loss.

My DH had a minor procedure done at a surgery center and it only cost $25K. So you will definitely be maxing out your deductible this year. Any other things you would like done but put off because of the cost, this will be your year!

My son had the tubes in/adenoids out procedure last summer (when he was almost 3).
He had outpatient surgery at the hospital.
Here are our figures in case it helps (these were the submitted charges to the insurance company):
ENT Doc $1,680
Hospital $6,800
Anesthesiologist $ 944
In the end we paid about $2100 out of pocket ($1000 deductible + $1100 coinsurance).
Most likely your surgery center finance people will get in touch with you before to give you your estimated figures. I think ours were pretty much right on.

The tubes have been well worth it. While he did get an ear infection this winter, his ears were able to drain on their own (really gross, but also kind of cool). My son went from mild hearing loss before to completely normal hearing after. Good luck!

thanks for the figures! i am going to call tomorrow, but really either way it will cost me the same whether i call them now or not.:headache:.

I am glad your son is doing better!

My youngest child has ear tubes and adenoids out right after his second birthday. Because of his age the kept him overnight in the hospital. He had tubes put in a second time last year at a surgical center. I just checked and it was $3800 just for tubes at the surgical center. I know the first time was well over $5000 with the hospital stay an adenoids. Thankfully my insurance covered everything. Good luck.
