Budget Board Discussion/Elimination of Many Swaps & Shares

Though not quite as intense as the discussion on the Community Board when their politics were taken away, there is a spirited discussion on the Budget Board about the elimination of any swaps/share that require money to change hands.

Here's the new rules:

It has always been a rule on the DIS that anything involving money changing hands between members was not permitted on the boards. With that in mind, a decision has been made to end all swaps and shares that include money passing between DISers.

What does this mean?

*Beginning today, all Photopass shares are over on the DIS. No new Photopass shares can be started.

*Threads for existing Photopass shares will be locked on Friday of this week. Any new threads will be deleted beginning today.

*Fridge and stroller swaps that are free can continue. However, if a refrigerator/stroller is lost or damaged, the swap leader cannot collect money from members to replace the lost/damaged item. Swaps may continue if an item is donated for the use of subsequent share members.

*No new fridge or stroller swaps will be permitted to start unless the fridge/stroller is a donated item and the swap is free to all participants.

*Any fridge or stroller swap that is not free to new members will be closed on Friday of this week. This will allow those leaders of swaps that are currently collecting money to decide whether they are willing/able to offer their swap for free. On Friday, any swap threads that are not free will be locked and their links will be removed from the sticky threads.

I have run a photopass swap before... it was to say the least, not fun. I would never do it again anyway.

Wooooooooooooooow! I bet they are in a tizzy over there on the Budget Board! I've never done a swap or Photopass share, but I know they are a big deal. Something must have happened for this decision to have been made. It must be chaos about now for the poor Moderator.

Honestly I did one fridge swap and all the hubbaloo in getting it , fixing the box, giving it to the next person was a PITA. I would rather have just paid the $10 per day and rent it from Disney. It is one of those things you live and learn. I am sure this may upset alot of people though who dont have the extra cash.

I totally support this change! I like the budget board, but it has been overrun with these swaps. People are getting as crazy over them as they are about reservations at the restaurant in Canada. To me, the logistics seem like a PITA anyway; I'd hate to be waiting around for someone's stroller/fridge/photopass, etc.

Wow. Interesting. I've done one stroller swap, and it was a PAIN. We had to go and get the stroller, which was no big deal. But, then we also had to deliver the stroller to the next stop. PAIN.

I'm curious...were you at all worried about not getting your pictures? I've never done a Photopass share, so I really don't know how they work, but I know I'd rather just pay for the CD because I'd be a nervous wreck waiting to get the CD from someone.

I've done a photopass share before and it worked great! There are many people here on the board that rent/buy DVC points - photoshare is trust too. We were in communication with the person that was organizing it right up until our trip and afterwards. It went very smoothly. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I was a little nervous, but to be honest, the person running it handled it really well and professional so that sort of put me at ease. They set up the account ahead of time and sent me the username and password ahead of time so I could go on there as soon as my pictures were put on.

And I figured if nothing else, it was only like 15 or 20 bucks, and that was much much better than 100!!!

Yeah poor Kathy I was just seeing her posts being so nice asking people to stop being mean and they just weren't listening! They've closed the thread now, thank heavens!!!

I couldn't read it all. I skipped from spot to spot because it was just so much of the same over and over and over and insults and BLAGH!

And yes....refillable mug swap.....while pool hopping, yeah? lol

Sorry Kathy and aka-mad4themouse had to put up with that today.

Poor aka-mad4themouse was fighting the battle alone for the longest time, then finally got backup.

I know it may be "biting the hand that feeds" to say this, but it seems like they were just tossed out there with orders for the new rules, but no answers. That's all people wanted was some sort of explanation other than "cause we said so". JMHO
