Is there a bus from Epcot to downtown Disney or do we bus it to a resort & then bus to downtown?

No direct buses from parks to DTD. If you're in World Showcase, you can go out the back entrance and catch a bus from one of the EP resorts to DTD. If you're at the front gate, I'd get a bus to one of the resorts near DTD (POR, POFQ, Saratoga Springs) and then walk or bus to DTD.
