We are having dinner at the brown derby our first night. We are 3 over on our kids TS for our trip...since my I am taking my kids to the CRT one morning for breakfast (dh isn't going he will be at a conference).

So I will need to pay for 3 (3 kids) TS meal out of pocket at some point during the trip. The restaurants we are going to are: Brown Derby (dinner), CRT, Tusker, Boma (dinner), Akerhaus, Via Napoli, O'hana.

I was thinking if I pay for Brown Derby out of pocket that would give me 3 extra TS meals. Then I have read I can convert those into CS?? Is that correct? This is making my head hurt! Or I could pay for boma out of pocket for the kids and I would use up all my TS credits. I just thought Brown Derby's kids prices were cheap for the meals 4.99 for a hot dog and I would have 3 extra TS.

Hope this makes sense to someone! :-):confused3

The Brown Derby is a Signature restaurant, so eating there takes two credits per person. I thought this was true for both adults and children. In that case, if you opt to pay OOP for the Brown Derby then you will save six child TS credits.

As for converting TS credits to CS - they some times allow this and other times do not. It varies depending on the location, CM, etc. so it is not something that can be counted on.

PP is right, they don't always let you change your credits over. Usually you only see that available during free dining, as many can't get into TS places and have to eat at CS.

If you have to pay OOP for any meal 2 rules are simple to follow.
Pay for the least expensive meal.
And if you can use all your credits before paying OOP.

Sometimes it is hard to follow that last rule of thumb, but if you can you usually come out ahead.

Many people "save" a credit and end up not using it. And to be honest exchanging a TS credit in for snacks....not a good way to use the credits. ;)

Have a great trip!

Brown Derby is one of the worst values on the dining plan because it requires 2 credits but the OOP prices are only slightly more than the 1TS places. You will get more bang for your buck using those credits elsewhere.

Thank you both for your replies! I did know Brown Derby takes 2 TS/person. I was figuring my "net" would be an extra TS per child. I have a total of 24 TS for my 3 kids for the week (8 nts). I have a total of 27 TS booked. Since I was only over 1 TS each child... if I saved and paid out of pocket there I would have an extra TS each to use instead of needing to pay for 1TS if that makes sense.

Most of my TS are characters. I think those would be most expensive. So if Brown Derby is the same cost as Boma (I need to check) then I'll pay OOP at Brown Derby and have the extra TS credits.

I guess I could take my chances if they would let me exchange it for CS since I have to pay for one TS anyway with the way I have my reservations I wouldn't be losing any money if they didn't let me.
Very excited!!

Thanks! This is kind of what I was thinking...esp. for kids. A $4.99 kids meal for 2TS credits seemed crazy (vs. 2credits for Cinderella)...I guess that may not include dessert but that is only a couple $'s I think.
