I am sitting here reading the boards and I am sooooo suffering. I have been to the hospital 7 times in the last week and half. I have been coughing and having sever chest pressure and cant hardly breath at all for 15 days now and havent worked a day in over a week. Will someone who has suffered with acute bronchitis please tell me how long this is going to last? I truly feel like im going to die and im being serious. Also to make matters worse im 10 weeks pregnant and ive had to take antibotics and cough med ,have all kinds of tests run and im scared silly that ive done something to hurt my baby but the doctors said I had to do these things to rule out pneumonia. Oh goodness someone give me some good news PLEASE!

I was diagnosed with bronchitis years ago, I can't really remember much other that my temp got to 102 and I was delirious, that's the highest temp I had ever had. But I don't think it lasted long, week and a half or 2 weeks maybe? But everyone is different, it will depend on how healthy a person you normally are.

Being pregnant is a rotten time to be sick, I'm so sorry for your, dear. I do know that night time is always worse for any kind of respiratory infections, and I never got a straight answer from anyone as to why.

Do not worry about work, you can not do that now, you need to rest and take it easy. I doubt that the doctors would let you have steriods now because of the pregnancy, but they might prescribe aerosol treatments.
I'm not a doctor, but I worked in Respiratory Care for 12 years, and I've been sick with several bad infections. Sometimes an aerosol treatment with normal saline can help, a bronchidialator medicine would be better but probably not while pregnant.

Ask your doctor about aerosol treatments with normal saline (its just salt water, very easy on our bodys) and keep cool, meaning have that house cold, it's easier on breathing. It will be better, I know how hard it can be when you can't breathe. You will get over this. Let me know how you're doing. :flower:

I had bronchitis my junior year of college during finals week. Oy, did I feel miserable. I had a high temperature, I was freezing and it was 85-90 degrees outside. I also felt delirous as someone else had mentioned. I couldn't breath like you had mentioned, and it hurt so bad to breath the doctor prescribed an inhaler. I had never had one before but that was saving grace, as well as some cough syrup that was very potent. It took maybe 3 weeks till I felt normal again.

Ive been so miserable Ive truly felt like dying. I wish they would give me an inhaler, they gave me a breathing treatment at the hospital Sunday night but other than that all Im taking is some cough pills and antibotics.

My wife has bronchitis this week also and it has been pretty rough on her, though it doesn't sound nearly as tough as you have had it.

I thought she would need a breathing treatment but she's done okay.

However, I wanted you to know they gave her antibiotics and cough syrup also; so that seems to be the standard, I guess.

Are you sure it is bronchitis and not asthma? I would make an appointment with an asthma doc and look into that possibility. DD had "bronchitis" all winter long a few years ago and we finally had her checked for asthma. She had asthma and as soon as she started on the meds for that, she was fine and hasn't had it since.

Im not sure its not asthma. The docs told me it was bronchitis but good heavens today makes 18 days. I havent worked a day in almost 2 weeks now and the doc bills are piling up and I feel like death warmed over. I just want this to be over. Is this something that I will have to deal with forever or is this a thing that will plague me now but end?

I would see a different dr. Did they do chest x-rays? It sounds more like pneumonia then bronchitis. Something isn't working with your treatment, obviously, find a pulmonary specialist if you can and get it looked at.

Get better soon - bronchitis is tough and I can only imagine tougher while pregnant. I had it from Thanksgiving 2004 to New Years 2005; I was going to the Dr. constantly; a different antibiotic every week; what my doc told me is that once you "hit" on the right antibiotic all will work out; I just wish we would have "hit" on it sooner. The last one we tried he said something like "this is the one we use when we have no idea what we're up against" Why didn't they just use that one first? For the life of me I can't remember which one it was. I'll put my thinking cap on. Hang in there!
