My DD broke her toe last night? What should I do to make it feel better this morning?
Thanks

I broke my toe once, I just sat down a lot and kept cold stuff on it, but I'm sure a trip to the mall would make her feel better too ;)

Hope she's feeling better soon :wizard:

I-C-E and elevation will help with the swelling. Unfortunately there really is not much you can do with a broken toe. I broke mine years ago and when I went to the ER all they did was tape it up with the toe next to it. It was very painful though.
Hope your DD is feeling better soon.

if it is the baby toe ......tape it to the next one over with a piece of gauze between the two....makes it more stable and feels better.....if it is broken in the wrong place.......you probably should have it checked..but pain meds and keep foot elevated with ice on it until you figure it out...

My DD broke her big toe in October. Motrin, ice. and staying off it all by doctor's orders. I hope she feels better soon. It took about 6 weeks for my DD to feel normal again.

Good advice from everyone. Poor little thing, I bet it is throbbing.

I broke a toe and found that it was more painful to tape it to another toe because every time you walked the toes would spread some and the tape prevented it from doing that and pulled on the broken bone. Make sure she wears good shoes, tennis shoes would be best, all the time, NO FLIP-FLOPS! Mine wasn't too bad except when we went to Cancun about 3 weeks after I broke my toe and we were walking barefoot on the beach, OUCH!!!

My older DD broke her big toe three weeks while at WDW. It is just now beginning to feel a little better. According to our doctor, buddy tape the toe with a piece of felt or something between the two toes, ice it, elevate, and advil or something for the pain. The toe still hurts although not as badly as three weeks ago. The doctor also said it would take about 6 weeks to completely heal.

If it's her big toe, it probably needs to be seen to make sure it's properly aligned. The other toes can be buddy taped. Advil for pain, ice, elevation, etc. Above all, make sure she wears something protective on her feet at all times. I have broken fingers, toes and a bone in my foot and they all took at least 6 wks to heal.

If it is a serious fracture, then she should wear one of those special shoes with the hard flat sole that does not bend. The toe cannot heal well if it is bending/moving with every step. And, it will hurt a lot more.

When I busted my little toe, they gave me one of those shoes. It was only $20.00. It wasn't a big old thing, low profile, just goes on like a shoe with velcro straps.

As long as the toe is immobilized in this type of 'post-op' shoe, it will not really hurt!

Otherwise, the more she walks, the worse it might hurt!

Has she seen a Dr.? Maybe you could stop by a podiatrist office and see if they would sell you one of those shoes. It was a real lifesaver!

I was very lucky, a local podiatrist was able to get me in that day, With Xrays and everything, it was about $100.00, billed to our insurance.

I had to laugh--are you sure you aren't my clone? I've also broken fingers, toes and a metatarsil bone (that was by FAR the worst!)

I agree with you and everyone else, Advil, ice, elevation, and rest are the best way to make her feel better.

Have to agree with you about the metatarsal--that one took 12 wks to heal and was so painful i couldn't even drape a sheet over my foot. The worst part was i was on crutches and had a 1yo. Of course, all that bedrest resulted in child #3

While at WDW two summers ago we were staying at WL and I broke three toes on one of the bed posts (you got to watch out for those Wilderness Lodge bed posts as they really stick out and are easy to stub your toes on). My toes turned a gorgeous shade of purple and swelled up so big and so fast. The lady in Roaring Forks was great about giving my son bags of ice. I tried to tape them together but that was just was more painful. I found that I could just put my swollen tootsies in my Birkenstocks and walk pretty well and with very little pain due to the type of support the Birks give. Thank goodness I had them with me because I tried my other sandals(Tevas) and my sneakers and the pain was too much -I would literally have needed a wheel chair.
