Broken Arm?

DS13 broke his arm 13 days before our trip. We asked the doctor if there was anything waterproof he could put on, and he gave him a hard plastic splint that he could take off after he gets out of the pool and dry it off.

Someone told me last night that he will not be allowed to ride SM, ToT, RnR, etc. Is this true?

Thanks for any input,

I would ask your doctor about that first off. Even if he may be allowed to ride those rides, he may not want to. Depending upon how bad the break was (Like how did it get broken? Was it a shattering that required surgery and pins? A fracture? Or a clean break?) the momentum from the rides may disrupt the bones as they are healing. Particularly if they are having constant force applied from repeat rides. However, if the bones are decently healed by then (If the cast is only supposed to be on a month your halfway done, but if its 3 months of longer they probably are still forming new tissue to begin to set it) it might be okay. Call up his doc and ask about it. Also call WDW at 1-800-828-0228. Thats their main number but its toll free so they can just transfre you anywhere if you call them to ask about this.

I did TOT with a broken leg so I would think you could do that with a broken arm. I would ask to sit on an end so that the broken arm is in the aisle. This way you can't hit anyone on accident. The same would go with RNRC. Not sure if SM is Space or Splash, but I can't see why you would not be allowed to ride either as long as you take precautions and know that Space is most likely going to jostle the arm. This may hurt a little bit so your son may want to take it easy. The same would go with BTMR. So basically the ability to ride any rides would be how comfortable your son is and how much he can move his arm around.

I do not remember being told that I was not allowed to ride any rides due to a cast (I do remember seeing this sign on Dueling Dragons). It was all about being able to get in and out of the rides. A wrist will not affect you from being able to do this. If your son has a sling, bring it along and have fun!

I rode Spash Mountain with a cast on my arm. It wasn't too bad of a break, and had already been healing for a month. The cast members didn't say anything about it.

What a coincidence...my DD13 broke her arm 13 days before our December trip. We were so worried that she wouldn't be able to ride the rides you mentioned, but there was no problem at all. No one ever said anything (and she had a red cast so it was very noticeable). She did make sure to cover it up on Splash Mtn. so it wouldn't get wet.

The only problem we had was at IOA. They wouldn't let her ride Dueling Dragons (they said if it was a half cast it would be okay, but hers was a full arm cast). However, she rode everything else (Hulk, Mummy, Men in Black, etc. and nothing was said at any of them).

One good thing was that she got lots of attention from CM's and the characters. She got her cast signed by all the characters too!

You the parent need to make the judgment call.

If your child instinctively grabs something using his broken arm to hold on to, the purpose of the cast is defeated and the break will take much longer to heal. If your child is unable to hold on with his good arm, there will be a problem. If he is jostled and the broken arm is pushed around, there will be a problem.

Also, if the ride is so strenuous that your child comes out sweating, wearing the cast will be even more uncomforable. This one is usually easy to deal with, wait up in an air conditioned area or store more often.
