Will soon leave home for an extended stay at Boardwalk (Yes!!!) On previous visits I have always bought in-room internet access by the day (typically at $ 9,95 per day). Anyone who knows if there is an option to rent by the week or month - and what applicable rates would be?

I have no idea if they give better rates on a weekly or monthly basis. I just had to post on a thread where you indicate you will be at BWV for at least a month!! How awesome is that! :cool1:

I used it in October when I was there, I tried to stretch it out by getting it one day in the morning and then the next day at night. The 24 hours start when you sign up for it again.

$9.95 per day, not broadband but dial-up, I think. It was awfully slow for broadband. We did the same thing as mentioned above, where we tried to get the dial-up every other day, based on what else we were doing. I did like the time remaining counter, so that I didn't ever go over my time to another day and another $9.95.

I recently read in one of the threads, that local calls are now free for dvc members.
If this is so, it might be worth looking into getting a free trial offer on dial-up, or paying the $9.95 for a month of earthlink or ppc, or whatever, and using a local phone number to connect.

Actually $9.95 for a 24 hour period. So you could connect at noon the first day and disconnect at 11:59A the next day and it only cost $9.95.

It is broadband, not dial-up. I've used dial-up with AOL for the price of a local call and it is very slow. The broadband is slower than my DSL at home but not near as slow as dial-up. Plus dial-up frequently disconnects.

Could anyone give us any inputs on providers other than AOL that they have tried at DVC? Earthlink, PPC, Juno, etc.?

I've used Netzero on many trips - there are several good local access numbers (you can check in the front of the phine book in your resort room for the prefixes that are considered local calls).

Another option is budgetdialup where you can prepay for your minutes. They also have several local access numbers as well as an 800 number for areas within local access.

When travelling in some areas without local access for these carriers, I have also found local dialup service in the phone book and have purchased service for a week - often at a low rate. We've done this at HH, GA, MN and WI - rates are usually around $10-15 for the week.

Just be sure you are using a local number as the long distance rates and surcharges will be excessive.

I use Earthlink dialup on vacation and it has worked just fine. We have cable modem at home, so I'm limited to about 10 hours per month on dialup without a fee. Not a problem, though.
