My mom and dad have been invited to a Brit Milah tomorrow. This is a first of them...it is for the son of my cousin...his wife is Jewish.

My mom just called me to ask if I were invited and she asked me...

Do you bring a gift??

I have NO idea but I knew where I could find out!~!

Please...any help would be great!!!

Certainly if you were going to bring or send a gift to this relative for their new baby, then you can feel comfortable bringing it to the Bris tomorrow.

Most of the time, a card and check are fine (maybe make it some denomination of chai...which is the #18, so the amount could be $36 or $54 or that sort of thing) or if they feel more comfortable giving an actual gift, that's fine too.

Mazel tov on the birth of your cousin's son. It is a mitzvah to attend a bris. Just tell your parents that if they are the least bit squimish, to look away when the mohel says he's going to do the cut. Both times with my boys, I couldn't watch the actual procedure. But the ceremony leading up to it is lovely and often filled with information and prayers.

Janet....Thank you so very much for this information!! I will call mom back and read your post to her!! :flower3:

Enjoy the Brit. It sounds like a new experience for you.

FYI, along with the circumcision and a nice meal following, the ceremony also includes giving a name to the new lil' gentleman. Most of the ceremonies I've been to, there are speeches given regarding where the name came from, and that may be most interesting of all. I am always curious about these - most of the time, the children are named after a special relative that passed away, and these are tear jerkers. Occasionally, you get a doozy where after the speech, everyone has a "whatwuzthat?" look on their face. Those are fun, too.

Enjoy!
