My daughter wants a friend to come with us on our cruise. The friend is 21 years old. Are there any forms needed for someone who is 21 years of age? I know there are forms if you bring another persons child who is underage so to speak but just not sure about a 21 year old. I would think not but my motto is, if you're unsure of something you need to ask! TIA

No, a 21 year old is an adult. They can go where they want, without special permission.

Agree, friend is not a minor, as an adult they are totally responsible for themselves.

I would want to make sure that you had their medical information, emergency contacts, passports, all that sort of stuff. While they are technically an adult, if you are assuming some type of responsibility for them, I would want to be prepared.

Agree! Would type up a Medical Authorization form that you are authorized to make medical decisions/treatment if the need arises. Copy her insurance card and have the form notarized. Better safe than sorry! My DD's 16 year old friend just traveled with us, so I have a form I can share if you would like. Just pm me.

We used one for our 2 year old when he was staying with family while we cruised for 4 days. Yes we could be reached, but sometimes and emergency is an emergency, and every minute counts!

I kind of think a medical authorization form goes too far. I'm an adult and if I go on a vacation with a friend I'd never sign over medical decisions to them or the ability for them to receive medical information about me.

A minor is a different story and needs a form because they cannot consent to any treatment on their own and only receive lifesaving measures without the form. An adult would receive any lifesaving measures already and can consent to their own treatment for anything not life threatening. Why would they want or need an addition person involved in their medical treatment?

A 21 year old is an adult. They do not need your authorization for anything.

I do not believe that you can sign for a power of attorney for a competent adult without that adult's consent. If she is special needs, I could understand that, but if she is an adult she does not need you to make decisions for her. Should something happen that renders her incompetent, her next of kin can be contacted.

At that age she should be able to keep track of her own medical insurance info, phone, emergency contacts, passport, cruise documentation, etc. But you can offer to keep track of that for her if you like.
