Hi! New to this forum. Just booked a room at PBH for 7 days over New Year's. I have two large dogs plus two teenagers coming on the trip. We chose the PBH because the room description says the rooms that can accommodate pets are 460 sq. ft, compared to HRH rooms at 375 sq. ft. Also, the PBH reservationist indicated that upon check in, we could request a 1st floor room with patio access, but couldn't pre-reserve that type of room. My question...has anyone brought their pets to either of these resorts and if so, what has your experience been? I was thinking a patio access room would be great for getting the dogs outside to do their business. But it also looks like the HRH would be more fun for our teenage girls (pool, atmosphere, etc.) (Not to mention $500 cheaper overall!!!)
Any feedback and/or advice would be soooo appreciated!

I would check out the deluxe rooms at the HRH. They are considerably larger and have a full pullout couch as well as the two queen beds.

Thank you...unfortunately, only certain rooms allow pets, and of course, they are the basic rooms. Believe me, I would have gone with the bigger deluxe room or even a kids suite, but no can do!!

If you are talking about HRH, that is not really true. I stayed in a deluxe room at HRH that was in the pet wing. However, if they can't guarantee you the room at time of reservation, i wouldd go with PBH. It is my favorite resort!

Count me in as another vote for the Portofino. We have stayed at the Hard Rock many times but the Portofino is our favorite. We always bring our dog with us - he is a 15 pound American Eskimo. The staff always showers him with love, attention and lots of doggie treats. We walk him early in the morning and at night on the trail from the Portofino all the way to the beginning of Universal Studios.

You and your children and your dogs will love the Portofino. I hope you have a wonderful time.

Thanks for your responses. My understanding at the HRH is that there are two wings in the hotel that accept pets, but within those wings, only in the standard room, not deluxe rooms. Oh well...I just hope our room at Portofino is large enough for us to put two large dog crates. Do you know if that patio access rooms at PBH actually let you walk outside to the grounds, or if it is an enclosed patio?

Thanks again everyone, the more advance tips I can get before we get there the better! Just want to be prepared :)

We stayed at the PBH earlier this year with our chihuahua and had a deluxe room with a patio. It was in the building nearest to the pool and the pet walking area, however our room was on the back side of the building facing the quiet pool. The dog walking area is on the front side of the building. It was nice to have the patio, but we didn't walk our dog there; we took her to the dog area. I didn't think you were supposed to let them out in the patio area as it was not a designated dog walking area, and it was mostly bushes and landscaping and not really conducive to that. But it was a fabulous room with a really great location and just a short walk to the pet area. The staff were so friendly to our little dog, and you are even allowed to have your dog with you at the outside tables at the restaurants! Hope this helps, and have a great time!

Thank you again for responses! This is very helpful, I'm hoping for a patio room, although we will be checking in very late on a Saturday, so chances are we won't get the best room. Hopefully there won't be many people checking in with dogs :) The patio room would just be helpful in case we need to get the dogs out quickly. We can't wait!
