HI folks,

We leaving soon for the Poly. Husband is bringing a laptop. I've read about locking it up so no one can steal it.

How do we do this?

Thanks.

They sell cable locks for laptops at most computer centers and office stores. They're a little bit heavy to carry, but all you have to do is secure the cable around something fixed in the room (i.e. - not a table or chair leg.) We generally just lock ours inside an interior pocket of our suitcases and have had no problems.

Not sure about the Polynesian in room safes, but the ones at Pop Century are large enough for a laptop.

Other options, the bell services area has a locked cage that you can store it in. For even more security, the front desk has large safe deposit boxes.

I must really be trusting. I have taken ours the past 3 trips to WDW. WL, Boardwalk Inn and the most recent trip the Contemporary. I left ours out and on the table. I do have a lock but rarely use it.

We do the same and never had a problem.

We lock ours inside our suitcase in the closet. For someone looking to steal stuff, it's too much work to get to it and it's out of sight. Also, password protect your laptop so no one can just start it up and get to personal info. Thiefs in hotels want things easy to grab, that are just laying out, like money, credit cards, cameras, etc. Especially in a resort, you're not always leaving for the entire day like on a business trip. People can come and go all day so it's not likely someone would spend a lot of time searching a room.

Good to know about the safes in other resorts, Tyler. The safes at the Poly are not big enough for most laptops (even our very compact Sony Vaio). Are the luggage storgae areas at Pop climate controlled? We were told by bell services at the Poly that the laptop would be kept cool when we stored it there after checking out, but when we retrieved our luggage, the laptop felt as though it had been sitting in the back window of a hot car on a 90 degree day. We have never stored it with bell services again.

I don't know if we're trusting or just lazy, CindyKansas, but even though we have a cable lock for the laptop AND sturdy TSA locks for our luggage, we have left the laptop out on many occasions, too. We have never had a problem, either, but I know we should be locking it up every time we leave.

I have brought my laptop every trip and leave it sitting out each time and have never had a problem. I have however read a few posts recently with people telling some scary stories about missing items so I think that this upcoming trip I will place my laptop under or inside something but I doubt I will go as far a putting it in the safe.

I just set it in the closet of under a bed. Never have had a problem. :badpc:

The Poly recently rebuilt thier luggage storage building. Not sure about the old one, but the new one is climate controlled, as are all luggage storage rooms.
