We are taking our grandson to disney world the end of june. He is 2 and will be 3 july 21. Do I need a birth certificate to prove his age. He is a bit tall but not that tall. He is 38inches tall. If they ask him his age on any given day he might tell you 2 or 3 or for goodness sake 17 like his uncle..lol. He is already saying he is 3, because he knows his next bday he will be three. His mom told him that disney is an early bday gift for him, being a big boy. So any advice on this one.

I doubt anyone will ask, but for your own peace of mind, I would bring a copy of the birth cert. It's good to have with you anyway.

I have never needed a Birth Certificate at DW but I have needed it in the airports. We had to have passports a couple of years ago for a trip to Mexico so we use those now. It really makes it easy at check in.

The CM asked our youngest dd how old she was. Although I was expecting her to say "30", she answered correctly. We were a little surprised that they asked her. It's funny, she is actuallly bigger than her older sister, although she not big for her age. Our middle dd, Kate, is just a peanut, and at five was still wearing 3T clothes. I wonder if they asked her because Katie had a ticket and she did not. Have a fantastic time.

thanks everyone..i will bring a copy of the original..that shouldnt be a problem right? I dont want to bring the original, expensive to replace and a pain in the butt to replace. I dont need it for anything else. You dont need them at the airports, so i will just keep a copy tucked away in the bag and if needing it I will have it.

Actually...you do.

No I called and asked and have flown so many times. You need id for the older school age children and and babies if they are flying on your lap unless something changed from a few months ago. We just flew 2 months ago and needed nothing. My older children used school id's and our grandson needed nothing not even anything from mom or dad stating permission to be with us.

yes that is probably right...we fly continental and do not need them, but it really doesnt matter because for the toddler we will bring it just in case for disney. He has his own seat on the plane, just proof for disney in case they think he is older than he is. Thanks again

The only reason you'd need ID a the airport for a minor is if they were flying as a lap child - to prove they are under 2. I even got scolded by TSA for handing them my son's passport with his boarding pass because it wasn't necessary and they didn't want to bother with it. I also made the mistake of flying once with my son as a lap child and DIDN'T bring his birth certificate. No one mentioned it on the way there - but on the way back, they gave me a very hard time, but still let us flight (but I'm sure they could have theoretically denied us boarding or made me buy him a seat to get on the plane).

I wouldn't bring ID to prove the kid's age to Disney. They aren't going to argue with you. It's not like people usually carry around proof of their child's age and they are going to assume that you wouldn't happen to have that on you. And even if they ask (they won't) and the kid says 3, they aren't going to argue the point with you when you say he's wrong. I've seen that exact scenario happen before - the Mom said the kid was 2 and there wasn't even any continued discussion. They aren't going to slow down the lines to argue with you over the age of the child.

The only exception I guess would be if you're trying to prove the child's birthdate because you are traveling on his birthday and want the free stuff from Disney.

ETA: Other exception is if you book a infant/child/youth fare - you may have to prove age to airline. Does anyone ever book those though??

I went two weeks ago with a two year old who is turning three this week. We did not bring a birth certificate (nor would we...we would have to assume they would honor us telling them the birthdate regardless of what the child says) and absolutely no one asked the age of the parents or child.

I didn't take a birth certificate when my twins were turning 3 later in the week we went (2007). They never asked until the last day we entered and one of the CM at the gate looked at my kids and said VERY LOUD, " They are 2!" My dad just kept pushing them through the gate, and just said yes. But there really wasn't a real issue, just that comment. They turned 3 on day 4 of our trip. So really they weren't 2 at that point, but Disney's policy is if they arrive 2 they are 2 the whole trip. This year they are going for their 5th birthday, and their brother is 2. He is almost as big as his 5 year old sister so I am definitely taking the birth certificate, so there won't be any questions.

Do CMs REALLY ask to see a birth certificate? This seems like a waste of time for them to check every child that may look older than 3. I have never seen them ask anyone.

No, they absolutely will not ask to see a birth certificate. It is not part of their policy. Age restrictions are all on the honor system with tickets or dining. Airlines require them for lap babies. Disney would (obviously) have to make it well known to bring the birth cert if it was part of the requirement for kids tickets or no ticket needed.
