Does Air Canada restrict you from bringing your own food on a flight?

I know that the 100ml restriction applies for liquids, but I'm talking about granola bars, snacks, things like that.

What about fruit? We should be able to take fruit from our departure to Toronto shouldn't we? I can see not being able to take it to the States though....

Thanks

Mike in the Maritimes.

I always have snacks that I bought at home in my carry on. Anything that I can buy at the airport is usually either too sugary or too salty. So I pack mints, chocolate bars and granola bars. I learned the hard way after sitting on the tarmack in Curacao for several hours that you should never board a plane without something to tide you over.

I doubt you could get past security with fruit though.

We've never had a problem with pre-packaged snacks, ie, oatmeal to go bars, cereal bars, chips, and the like.

Pre-"new" security measures, I would take little tupperware containers of goldfish crackers, and cheese - but I doubt those would be allowed now....but maybe.

Worst case scenario, you'd have to throw it out on your way through.

Fruit is a no-no...for coming back. We've never tried taking it with us:)

HTH!!

I do believe that fruit and meat cannot cross the boarder...
I know at the Windsor/Detroit bridge and tunnel they have signs saying so, and they ask you if you have any with you.

We are flying over breakfast and lunch time and we don't paticularly like the plane food. I would rather bring my own drinks too, but of course respect thier rules.

Definitely no fruit or meat....they will even confiscate a bag lunch when crossing at Sarnia (depending on the attendant). We cross regularly for day trips...have been pulled in a coulple of times and if you have kids and say that the snacks are for the kids they usually let them go. As for drinks on the plane, Once you have cleared through the ticket/xray area (i forget what that part is called):rotfl: you should be able to get drinks at the food/bev area and board the plane with it because it is from a secured area. I am assuming that your airport has these, as I have only flown out of Detroit and they do. My DBIL did this just last week for his trip to Vegas....not as cheap as bringing from home, but more variety than the plane.:confused3

Will they really confiscate food that isn't prepackaged? I am bringing down my own muffins because I have celiac and would like them for the plane as well as breakfast at the resort but I don't want to pack them in my checked luggage. If anyone has a phone number for Air Canada that I can call I would love it.
TIA

I'm diabetic, so I always bring my own food, including home-made muffins, sandwiches, a little container of salad, fruit, whatever, in my carry-on bag. Last trip to the US was in early December of 2006, and in April I flew to Halifax and back, and nobody said a thing about my food.
