We just returned from a week at WDW. I also returned with 7 very itchy bug bites on my legs and feet! I never felt anything bite me, but now nearly a week later, they are almost gone, but still visible! They didn't bother me until our second to last day. My parents were with us and good thing mom had bug bite meds because the two one one foot were annoying! Mom also thinks she got bit by sand fleas while sitting on the ground on Main Street waiting for the fireworks. She said she got it last time she was there too.

Just a warning! I know it wasn't mosquitos because we have them here and my bites look different. So I don't know what repellant you would use!

How is it possible to be bit by sand fleas... where there is no sand?

I hate bugs and always take bug spray thank you we will try to be careful. Maybe they were something else?   party: party: party:

I also get bitten every summer...like little flys or something like it...they itch like crazy...gotta remember bug spray (my DH won't be happy I'm adding
one more thing to the list) - kindof funny, though. I'm the only one that
gets bit...I KNOW - I'm the sweeter one in the family :cool1: :lmao: :lmao:

I keep benadryl cream in my pocketbook and around the house for mosquito bites. I hate them!! :headache:

Be careful don't take bug spray on the airplane. We did one year and they took it out of our lugguge. So now we take bug sprays pumps.   party: party: party: party:

My mom claims that they were sand fleas because there was indeed sand where we were sitting...like a light coat of it. I have no idea what sand fleas are but that's what she claims so I didn't argue. It was itchy and she's only ever gotten it at WDW.

for the heads-up on the spray.

I DO believe they were sand fleas that bit me - it was at the Polynesian, standing on the beach, watching the fireworks....

I get bit by chiggers at WDW. I can feel them, they always bite me on the feet, especially at night when I am wearing my Teva sandals. Chiggers are too small to see with the naked eye however. They are these small but incredibly painful, itchy bites. They last for quite awhile. The first time I got these (I live in Colorado and we don't have chiggers) was in St. Louis in August. They love grassy areas in particular I believe. If you do a google search on chiggers you could find some more information on them. But now when I go to WDW I use Off Deep Woods (it comes in a pump now too). Regular Off doesn't repel them enough.

I found this link on chiggers:

There's also (no lie!) a type of bug called a "no see 'em." You can't see them land on you because they're so small, but they do bite.

Just heard there's a brand new type of bug spray out there that works great and is DEET-free! The ingredient is something like "picaridin" (something like that) that's way less toxic than DEET, but works just as well. Many bug sprays (including Cutter's brand) now carry that version. I like the idea of not using DEET - it's a very powerful chemical.
