As I listen to the podcasts from years ago, I am reminded of the freshness and excitement that used to exist for all things Disney. Of course there were critiques, but they were always with merit and done both respectfully and tastefully. As I scroll through the past years podcasts, I am sadly reminded of the great Dis podcasts of the past. Now, they seem poorly planned, rushed reminders of once great discussions and reviews. In my opinion, most of the regulars seem to feel almost bored by all things Disney. The podcasts seem like a "job" now, with average reporting and just poor banter. Maybe it's a simple transition from audio to video that has shifted the focus from creative and informative to how I look on camera. I continue to listen, but I grow less and less interested as weeks pass. I hope that the podcast family can breath some new life into a very special podcast because it truly feels like a simple shell of it's former self.

Hmmm. While I would agree the podcasts are different, I'm not sure I'd agree that they are any less spontaneous. I guess there is some more structure being imposed simply because of the video process but I find there is still a lot of banter going on.

I am sorry you feel this way.

I must say I am personally offended by some of your remarks, especially that our shows are poorly planned or rushed.

Over the years we have spent more time and more money on each new episode. Pictures and videos are coordinated with all aspects of the show; in addition coverage and show ideas are worked out weeks if not further in advance. We specifically set aside time from our other responsibilities to make sure the energy and effort we put into each show is what is needed to do the best job possible.

I also take offense to the idea that we spend too much time on how we look on camera. Have you seen me? If I cared what I looked like on camera I would have had a stomach staple, Botox and a head transplant!!

The "banter" or interpersonal interactions are not staged or scripted - so if these are not the same from show to show it's because we are just being ourselves. We can't go into a show saying 'let's have great banter this week' - it's a natural and organic reaction to what's happening during that particular show.

I do take responsibility for losing some of my excitement for some aspects of Disney. I have mentioned that on the show in the past. Living this close to WDW and it being my job 24/7 may be the cause. I do still get very excited about many other aspects of the Disney product (Adventures by Disney, DCL, etc) but I have always been honest in saying I haven't been excited about going to a WDW park in a while. However wouldn't you rather hear me say that rather than fake excitement?

As I said, I will accept the fact that my personal excitement for some aspects of Disney have lessoned but I will not let anyone say we are 'less prepared' or 'rushing' our shows and content - that simply is not true. If you do not like the direction the show has taken than that is certainly your right to feel that way and if necessary discontinue watching/listening but please dont say we are putting less effort or thought into our shows as that is simply not the case.

The audio only podcasts could be more free-form because the team could edit out the parts that did not go as planned. Not so with a live program. The team has to stay on script. So, yes, some of the spontaneity is lost. Long time listeners and now viewers surely understand that.

I am going to agree that what to OP perceived as spontaneity was heavily edited. I remember Kevin's tweets about the 4+ hour long sessions. Those usually were edited down to 2 hours or less.

I do miss the multiple (more than 2 segments) episodes and hope that after the holidays more of those return (though I know a lot of that hinges on Pete's back health). Maybe add in a regular email and/or Facebook show again. With the more positive experiences some podcasters are having at Universal, maybe it's time to revisit a regular Universal show. I also hope to see more segments from the "clubhouse".

I think the down on Disney feeling has been due to some of the podcaster's general experiences with cast members lately. Kathy posted last night on Facebook that she had a less than stellar cast member experience on her Journey meet up.

I would also suggest that the more polished podcast has freed the team up to do more for the website (ie more videos).

All in all, I like the video podcast and miss you all when you are unable to broadcast. :badpc:

I am still a very excited Disney fan. I posted my experience about the cm because it was so out of character for what I usually see. I normally have very good experiences with cast members.

I still get goosebumps when I come on WDW property. I love visiting the parks. It hasn't gotten old for me.

We walk a fine line when we review something on the Podcast. I try to keep in mind that lots of folks would like to be in my shoes and see something for the first time. We also have the very experienced WDW guest. If I fake my opinion I lose my creditability. I am thankful every day that I have a job that lots of folks would like to have and wish our listeners could be walking along side me as I experience this events.

I'm sorry to hear that you feel that way, but have to disagree with you that "average reporting" and less preparation is being done. As someone who works with members of the team regularly, I know that this is just not the case. A lot of hard work goes into producing a show of this magnitude. Dustin, Shaun, and Craig have brought the show to a new level with their production of it; the complimentary videos, blogs, etc. make it that much more informative and enjoyable. Likewise, saying that everyone is more concerned with how they look on camera rather than what they bring to the show is hurtful because so much goes into what is researched, covered, and produced each week. Ultimately, I strongly disagree with your assessment.

Change is difficult for many. I understand that. While everyone has a right to their opinion and constructive criticism can be helpful for making improvements, making assumptions about the motives and amount of effort for things related to the show is unkind. I hope that you find what you are looking for in a future podcast from here or elsewhere.

When we did an "audio only" show, people complained that they couldn't see us.

We had the freedom to let things "bloom" knowing that we could edit out anything deemed inappropriate....and trust me....there was some inappropriate conversations.

We moved to a live video feed (which is akin to working without a net) where folks can see us but there is no chance to edit....so the inappropriateness had to stop.

Now we are being called a "simple shell of our former selves".

There is no way to win.

I think the point that I find distasteful is the suggestion that we have stopped being informative and creative in lieu of worrying about how we look on camera.

I think that's harsh and unfair.

Please know that while I understand your opinion and support your right to it.....I am 100% proud of what we are doing now and all of the work that goes into it.

I am a long-time listener to the show. The DIS Unplugged was the first Disney podcast I listened to on a regular basis. While I don't always get to watch the live video feed, I do enjoy getting to see the folks I've listened to for years.

Certainly, the show is different now. Different people, different format. The old days with Pete, Bob, John, Kevin, Corey, and Julie were certainly fun and entertaining. Still miss Bob! After thinking about it, yeah, some of the excitement may be gone from some of the podcasters, but I still see/hear it from others.

For me, the most important things I get from the DIS Unplugged is good information and honesty. I may not always agree with Pete's rants, but I appreciate his passion.

There are many other Disney podcasts out there to listen to/watch. I hope the OP can find something he/she likes.

I, for one, love the show. It is not unusual for me to find myself laughing out loud when I listen to it. Thanks in part to the podcast, I've also now attended 2 DIS meets that I probably wouldn't have otherwise known about and they were both a lot of fun.

One thing that I do think is true, and probably unavoidable, is that during periods when very little new has occurred at Disney, the team may not have a whole lot to talk about. Really, how many times can you review the Halloween party when it is pretty much the same year after year after year? But that isn't the fault of the podcast team - that's Disney's fault for letting things get stale.

I love that the podcast is honest. It isn't Disney propoganda. When something is not well done, they don't hesitate to say so. Of course, when Disney gets it right, they don't hesitate to praise them either. I like hearing the good, the bad, and the ugly through the eyes and ears of the podcast team.

John,

You guys do a great job. I think the episodes that to me help solve the "Lack of personal excitement" is just some of the guests. I think the college program show and even Scotty the Wrestler shows added some of the "fan" aspect.

On the flip side, watching you guys discuss the Adventures by Disney trips you guys glow. I don't think you take anyone out of the show or need to change up your personal contributions to the show....just maybe bring in 'doe eyed' perspective on the parks.

I personally love the snark and absolutely love the restaurant reviews. I find those reviews are honest and do a favor for Disney. Just because you have a Disney restaurant does not make it good. In fact the ambiance of Disney sometimes clouds the judgement of the food. You guys break through the ambiance and I appreciate that.

Lastly, as someone who's produced TV News, Radio shows and runs a local quasi travel site..... I really think you guys are an example for others. I think the production of the videos are excellent, the live broadcasts are beyond a treat and the message board is run very well. The Podcast has a great honest, relaxed feel. Not everyone is going to be happy.

AS FOR KEVIN: I need more local non-Disney restaurant selections.

Exactly how does one "bring back the old days". I would love to have Bob back, on video, with props and Harold. But if I recall, there were complainers, before the video, that the podcast had gone "stale". Things change.

But it is easy to say what you don't like. What would you have the podcast do?

The Orlando DIS show is still my favorite podcast of all. I look forward to it every week.

I couldn't agree more. It's threads like this that make me sad because people generally complain more than praise and I never want the team to think that one person's view represents the rest of us. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the podcast and have ever since it's inception (well, except for those people Pete hired in the beginning...they were fake ;)) I love the chemistry between everyone, the honest reviews, the discussions, and most of all the laugh out loud moments. And those LOL moments are countless. The show brightens my week and when I see someone isn't feeling well, I pray for them just like any other friend. A blind person could see the enormous amount of work that goes into the show which brings enjoyment for FREE to us fans. :thanks:Since I know I don't say it often enough, THANK YOU DIS podcast team for all the hard work you do for us. It is worth it and we love you! :disrocks:

I have to disagree whole-heartedly. It's evident the team works incredibly hard to bring us great content. Pete has also brought in new talent, which has only made the podcast better. It's unfortunate that you feel this way, but we feel like the new talent and the video has only made the podcast better. Never mind the fact that we do not pay for this...

I so agree with this! I've been a long time listener and although I miss certain elements of past podcasts (maybe just miss bob), I love what they have done with bringing the live podcasts and 'new' people in. It's fresh, it's true, it's relevant...what more could you want.

Plus, everybody is still themselves! I feel like I know each and every podcast member because they are natural while 'on air'.

Thank you Podcast for making my week so much more enjoyable with your podcasts. I appreciate the time and effort that goes into each and every 'show'.

DH and I do continuing education for electrical contractors, so I know how much time/effort goes into 'a show'. Hmmm, I think WDW needs some classes . LOL.

I would like to thank the Dis team for the continued hard work and their ability to take me to Disney weekly through their many stories, videos, and photos. I am, I guess, relatively new to the Dis as I only discovered it 2+ years ago. Since then, I look forward to the podcasts and admit my week is lacking when an episode is missing. I prefer the live podcasts to the audio as it allow us to feel as though our friends are visiting, sharing their stories about the latest visit to Disney World, even though we've never met! I so appreciate the work and effort put into the videos and the live-feed shows as it takes me there with them. Thank you to Pete, John, Kevin, Dustin, Shaun, Craig, Teresa, Kathy, Cory and Julie! Keep up the great work!!

I have only been listening to the dis since they started the video show so thats almost a years now. At that time it was after my first disney vacation to WDW in over six years and I really wanted to stay in the now with news and whatever else was going on. So I looked on YouTube for video and found several different things from podcasts to video blogs to just videos of vacations. It's when I came across the dis that I was really into it all. I watched the. For the first time and I was hooked and have been ever since. It feels as I've been listening or watching for several years. I really connect with the dis team and don't think any of the work they do is bad. Over the past year I have also gone back and listened to several podcasts from previous years especially with Bob getting to learn what a great man he was. From watching the last year and listening to past podcasts I don't feel as if the work has gotten worse I think it has gotten better with every show. When the video podcasts first started to where it is now is a great improvement and Dustin, Shaun, and Craig do an amazing job with the show every week. I look forward to watching the show every week expecting something new and exciting and I get that. My friends and family think I'm crazy for sitting and watching and laughing along to the show. They also think I'm nuts for belonging to the boards and contributing my opinion on things. The show and the boards bring disney fans alike and different together to share their love for the walt disney company. Everyone is entitled to their opinion if you like the show or not but I can tell that the team puts a great amount of work into what they do day in and day out.

The show has definitely changed in the past few years and going to video was drastic change...some of those changes have been good, some not so much, but that's to be expected with any thing and is a reflection changes in both technology and personal perspectives.

I still love the podcast and think it is one of the better ones out there covering Disney and what the team has done with the video is awesome BUT it has fallen from my "must listen on release day" because just listening to the audio only portion is really bad in my opinion since so much attention is now given to the cameras and my job responsibilities prevent me from watching the live broadcast/youtube video while at work so it usually gets pushed to some time over the weekend if I have time and find myself being a week or two behind most of the time now...so while I miss the old audio only podcasts I'm just adjusting how/when I listen which isn't normally a big deal unless something within the podcast is time sensitive like a sign-up for something...do I expect the team to adjust their show because it doesn't fit in the way I want to listen? no of course not and I wouldn't want them to, but I do think there are many listeners like me that may feel similar since the switch to video
