Breastfeeding in the Parks

I happily BF'd' DS on our last trip when-ever and where-ever needed. I did use the baby centers if I was in the area, as the rocking chairs were a nice break from park benches or rock outcroppings [in front of EE]. No one ever said anything, and if there were disapproving looks, I didn't notice...not my concern.

I'm sure that you have the process figured out, and if you are confident I have found the people are less likely to "make suggestions." From my experience, friends who seem to be concerned about others have tended to get more "advice" on what/when/where to BF.

Best of Luck! I think you'll find BFing at WDW is very easy and waaaaaayyy convenient. Have a great trip.

I am currently nursing #3. With 1 & 2 I don't remember ever getting any comments. We took #3 in August when he was 5 months. I was sitting at the exit to Test Track and the baby got fussy so I started nursing him. An older lady was sitting next to me and said "use the blanket, you'll be more comfortable". I just looked at her and said "I'm fine, thank you" and sat down next to her. :rotfl:

Sounds like she would be more comfortable....

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. We are so excited about our trip and now this is just one less thing I have to think about.

One more question...

How are the smoking area's marked? Is there a sign?

On our first trip to WDW, my DD was 5 months old and nursing. I mostly "wore" her in my Maya Wrap. It was great, because she could sit up and watch when she wanted, and sleep when she wanted. Many times she nursed during a ride or show. We didn't have to stop and find a place to feed very often. It was so easy just to shift her around when needed, and the wrap has a great "tail" that comes over your shoulder to be more of a cover up. But I doubt anyone ever had a clue I was nursing. I was even able to be nursing her at least once as we were walking from one area of the park to another.

People must have never seen a sling before, because I got a lot of comments on what a great idea it was.

So, anyway, I really recommend that brand--it did make the trip a lot easier--
and there are many different ways to wear it. It is also really good as they get older. At one point my husband was holding the little one, and my almost 4 year old wanted to be held. I put the sling around her and it really made her weight easier to bear.

I hope you have a great trip, and enjoy the special time with your baby. I miss those days of nursing.
I am glad that I found this thread. I was wondering where to nurse, my ds who will be 6 months when we go in December. I like the idea for the sling. Question.... would it be big enough for a 6 month old?

I plan to use centers, but I havent quite figured out where to nurse while I am on excursion in NAssau on the cruise. ((lol)) :)

To the OP, no there is nothing wrong with nothin wrong with nursing him in anywhere you feel comfortable. You are using the cover so it should be more than ok.

A sling would definitely be big enough. Do you already have a front carrier? I nursed easily with one, so you may want to try it before buying a sling. I would just shift it to one side or the other (baby in line with your leg and not right in the middle) and could walk freely. I figured this one out with my second child-- this was the only way I could ever take her to the grocery store. My babies were always in a front carrier or sling (never used strollers), so it was very easy to feed as soon as they started to get fussy. I would definitely use a sling or carrier if you want to feed during a ride. The baby is "attached" to you, so they're very easy to hold onto and continue feeding while getting on/off the ride.

I always used the dark attractions or a quiet corner to breast feed. Ellen's Universe of Energy and The Great Movie Ride are excellent locations. As mentioned above, TTA is also a good spot.

I have 5 children and am very comfortable with breastfeeding. I feel that I have the right (duh! obligation) to feed my child whenever he/she gets hungry in public or private.....but I don't like to make others feel uncomfortable with it. However, it has always felt natural to me and I could sometimes forget what I'm doing. Take for example the home video footage of me riding the TTA with my kids. It wasn't until I watched it for the 3rd time that I realized I was breastfeeding (OMG....and singing outloud, "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow....."). d'oh!

I wish I could have used a sling! That would have made things easier (and I could have burnes in line LOL). DS hated being in the sling. I got to use it about 3 times total since I had him and all of those lasted at the most 5 minutes!

Oh, I don't know if it was mentioned before, but Hall of Presidents and the American Adventure are two nice places to BF also

Nurse away! I think people will be too busy enjoying their vacations to notice a breastfeeding mom on a park bench anyway. :goodvibes

We are leaving next month for Disney. Our new DS will be 8 weeks old. I am breastfeeding him. I don't mind breastfeeding him in public (I have a nursing cover).

I don't want to have to go to the babycare center every time he needs to eat. Do you think it is wrong to find a quiet bench/spot and breastfeed him (using the cover) in the parks?

Not at all.....I haven't read all the replies yet and I am sure there are others that say no way. But, you get my vote with or without a nursing cover.

Thanks for starting this thread. I will be nursing my three month old there in Feb and have been a little nervous about it. I never could get over nursing in public with DS and didn't do it (I pumped into bottles for public - NOT convenient!!!). But I am determined to get over it and feed my son when he needs it.

Please keep the suggestions on good nursing spots coming! I never would have thought of the TTA!

I nursed my 19 month old in the parks in august and not one single comment nor look, i found long rides a good place too, the wall by the teacups (i don't "do" spinning rides so the kids went on whilst i nursed)

best nursing experience had to be the bench beside pirate school (outside potc) as i was able to sit in shade, watch my eldest son take part end then Captain Jack ran right by us (jumped the barriers) when he flees at the end of it- also saw hook & schmee being led out

Honestly- I have nursed all over the "world"! Nobody even notices. I can tell you that I personally am so busy with my own family that I wouldn't notice if you were nursing right in front of me. I find a bench or I nurse on the rides. You'll be fine and have a great trip!!!!:wizard:

I felt just this way. I nursed 4 children before we took DS4months in April and never once nursed in public. It was just something I did not feel comfortable with. So, I bought a nursing cover and the first time I used it was on the airplane. It worked so perfectly - he nursed during takeoff and fell asleep and slept until we touched down in Orlando. Then, I nursed him on ME. I also brought along my pump and was prepared to bring bottles for when we went to the restaurants - never even opened the pump. I did use the baby care centers when they were convenient to where we were at the time, but also nursed him on rides, during shows, even at dinner - all with the cover on - I felt very comfortable the whole time and did not get one nasty comment or look. Because it was pretty hot when we were there, I tried to pick places that were air-conditioned. So, don't worry. You will have a wonderful time and have many great memories of bringing your little one to the happiest place on earth!
