.

just my luck that someone bumps the thread right when I start a new update, lol.

I did start another thread but here is what I posted

I just wanted to post this update. The old thread is on pg 5 and 17 pages long so I didn't want this info lost.

The NTSB has released their 1st report on the incident. The final report will take up to a year.

According to the report, they are blaming the crash on a switch failure. So the theory about monorail pink backing into monorail purple was correct. The report doesn't indicate that there was any mechanical problem with the switch.

The report also indicated that driver Austin Wuennenberg did stop his train and attempt to put it in reverse to avoid the collision.

Also, according to local news reports (WESH) 2 employee, the on-duty manager (who was at an LBV restaurant at the time of the crash) and the maintenance person in charge of making the track switch have been suspended without pay.

Such a horrible tragedy that should have been avoided.

I just read the article also. I was under the impression that it happened in the TTC station.

Sorry about that RadioNate….

I looked around and didn’t see a thread with the new information and I didn’t think to start a new one. Maybe OP of this thread can change subject to "update on page ??"

Take care

It's ok. It was just funny. I'm sure we were typing at the same time!

That would be awesome if the OP could put an Update PG 17 or something.

I feel with all the speculation early on about the driver not paying attention, falling asleep or texting, that is important to note that Austin died while taking action to insure the safety of his passengers. He was an amazing cast member.

Oh my gosh, I hadn't seen the video before today. :sad1:

I hope Austin's family, friends and fellow CMs know how much us Disney freaks appreciate wonderful people like him.

Absolutely. Austen was obviously paying attention and did the right thing. May he RIP.

Buy it sounds like there was still human error somewhere, and the who, what, when, where and how of that still remains to be seen.

I know people got upset about the texting comment in relation to this particular accident. But it doesn't change the fact that texting (and other forms of inattention while driving or operating equipment) continues to be a dangerous problem for today's society.

Here was the news out of Boston yesterday: Trolley Driver Accused Of Texting Indicted, 62 People Injured In May's Green Line Crash

It was naive on my part but I was hoping that Austin somehow didn't realize what was about to happen. Like maybe he was just passed a curve or something, in a blind spot maybe.

I can't let myself think about it. It's just so awful. :sad1:

Lake Buena Vista - The town where WDW is located.

Thanks. I knew that's where Disney was but I have never heard of it put as LBV so I just couldn't figure out what LBV was...thought it was some hotel at Disney that I didn't know about

I guess it was not a fluke accident after all....

orld employees have been placed on paid leave as part of the investigation into a monorail crash which killed a 21-year-old train operator over the weekend.

A Disney spokeswoman said Thursday that the paid leave is not disciplinary action but part of the investigative process.

The employees are a monorail shop worker, the operator of one of the trains involved in the collision and a transportation manager.

An Orlando TV station reported that those responsible for monitoring the Disney World monorail system were at a restaurant when a crash occurred last Sunday, killing a monorail driver.

THEY LEFT A MANTENANCE WORKER IN CHARGE!!! that poor boy! I hope the family hold them AND disney at fault for his death...this was not a accident,it could have been avoided.
