I have a very reliable source that tells me that Joe Rhode was giving James Cameron a tour of Animal Kingdom today.

He was pointing out the different queues and attractions and describing how well themed they are.

I understand they made stops at Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids and the Wild Africa Trek.

It seems that things are under way.

Cool news! Can't wait for a new Dsiney attraction :)

For the price they are paying- it had better be more than one attraction!!

Drat...I was hoping you were going to say Disney changed their mind about putting the blue monkey people in AK.

Thanks for the update! This is so exciting! :goodvibes

I agree 100%. :thumbsup2 I am not looking forward to changes based on a single non-Disney movie.

I think it's very exciting that Animal Kingdom is finally getting some needed attention. I'm definitely not crazy about Avatar, but Disney was bound to jump on the blockbuster bandwagon at some point. Even for those of us who don't understand all the hype surrounding the movie it IS the highest grossing film of all time and I'm sure that got Disney's attention. I'm very surprised that they're making it an entire themed land instead of just one attraction like Indiana Jones or Star Tours. I'm reserving complete judgement until everything is finished, and I'm sure Imagineering will do an amazing job with the themeing. The only thing I'm actually worried about is the storyline. It really doesn't fit well with a family friendly brand like Disney.

I Enjoyed Avatar.
I would have never paired Disney and Avatar up together in my brain and still can't totally.
I can see where Disney sees the appeal.
I am putting myself in the mindset to look at this new land as just a new land and try to seprate it in my head from the movie. Doing that I can see how it fits.

Glad to hear that they are taking the tours and getting things underway. This will be very in teresting to follow. I am very optimistic. Thanks for the Info Kevin.:thumbsup2

When I saw "Avatar" in the headlines for this, I thought it was Avatar: The Last Airbender, not the blue creature film of the same name. I honestly thought that story line might work in AK. Imagine my shock when I discovered I was sooooooo far off it wasn't funny. It may the highest grossing film, as a pp noted, but I've never seen it and have no clue as to the storyline.

Cool.

Maybe that's why they haven't fixed the Yeti.

Still not a fan of James Cameron (except Terminator), Avatar or Disney Avatar.

I hadn't seen the film when the announcement was made but I made a point to see it since. I'm luke warm about it but it was quite visually pleasing and can make a cool area at AK. I especially liked the fact that the ground lit up when the Blue People walked on it. I think that would be a cool (and easy) element for Disney to incorporate. Honestly, I think the idea of it is actually good. Here are a few ideas (the "Ideas"):

1. A Pandora-themed Park that is completely surrounded by tall trees, etc. so the outsiders can't see in. A threshold queue area outside would indoctrinate guests as Blue Persons in the pre-show (maybe Puddy could talk to the guests like in Soarin'). Then Blue Guests cross the threshold, become about 1.5x the size of an average human and the world could just come alive (light up ground, crazy bugs, etc.). Maybe a Gene Wilder Blue Person could greet us in a top hat singing "Pure Imagination" and offer us some flowers to eat, made of chocolate of course. Sure, a movie blend - but it could work. And the love bugs native to Florida in the Spring(?) would be extra theming at no cost.

2. A ride where guests feel like they're riding one of those flying creatures. Guests first conquer that creature by konking it on the head with a stick (this would appeal to the boys), then the creature will bow down to the guest and allow it to ride (pay no attention to the fact that it sounds strikingly familiar to a Hippogriff).

3. An interactive tree which would allow guests to use their hair to hook into a glowing network of guests who can talk to each other across the park (think cans on a string - but the string glows).

4. A quiet area for guests with whicker hammocks for nap time (in honor of Bob).

Well I think I could put this area together WAY under budget! Just a few ideas to ponder...

I like those ideas Stacy.. especially the tree one.. it's been a while since I saw the movie (saw it when it opened in theaters) and honestly I forgot about the tree thing.

Exciting news Kevin!

As far as the whole concept itself I'm in the camp of people who are waiting to see. I did see the movie in theaters, and while it was visually amazing (!), I didn't think it was THAT great of a film. I agree with Pete though and think that unless Disney TOTALLY screws up, this could turn out amazing.

The only thing that bugs me about this whole thing is now I'm going to be required to watch part 2 and 3... which I probably wouldn't have done.. just so I can understand the references in the park to those movies. Heck, I probably should watch the original film again because honestly, I couldn't tell you the names of the characters or any real detail about it!

A photo of them was just posted on the DisneyParks blog. You can see from left to right: James Cameron, Joe Rohde, and Tom Staggs. In the back you can get a glimpse of Meg Crofton too.

:lmao::lmao:

What does it say about things when Meg isn't good enough to hang out with the cool kids and has to stay in the back of the group?

hmmm....I wonder what James Cameron would think of the Yeti

Cameron: So where is that really big Yeti that you guys spent a few million dollars and years developing at? That TV special hyping it up for years looked really interesting.

Disney: Um...well it's not exactly working right now...but look at these really cool carnival rides over here.

Cameron: Not working? I bet you have your best people working on it though...you think it it'll be working in the next few days while I'm in town?

Disney: Hmmm...probably not...we've been having issues with it for a while now, but we have a fix in place and it's almost as good. Wanna see our bird show?

Cameron: How long is a while? What kind of fix?

Disney: (mumbling) almost since it opened and a strobe light...it's become the joke of the Disney community...the Disco Yeti...there's even a song on youtube about it.

Cameron: :scared1:
