On our last trip we stayed at the Carousel so we had the free continental breakfast. This time we will be at the DL Hotel. We have been to WDW frequently and DL only once recently.

I understand we can request a fridge and coffeemaker?? is there a charge for these at all? And do they supply creamers and sugar for the coffee?

Can you buy milk in the store at the hotel? We usually pick up a jug of milk at the store at the WDW resorts for our room fridge.

What kind of breakfast options are there around the hotel (not in the parks as don't want to waste park time) that don't require a PS. We will do the PCH Grill breakfast one morning.

Usually I send DH to the food court at CBR or Pop to bring the breakfast back to the room while I get the kids up. It's nice to have pancakes or eggs in the room so the kids can watch tv while they eat and give DH and I time to discuss the plans for the day.

In DTD Rainforest Cafe, Jazz Kitchen Express and LaBrea Bakery all have breakfast!

Since the choices in DTD (which is where you'll be walking thru on the way to the parks) are not cheap......& McDs etc on Harbor Blvd is too far a walk (imo)....., I think that Room Service is a good option.

I've done it twice at the PPH & one meal easily fed two of us. I would think two meals would easily feed 4-5 (depending on the kids & the appetites). Plus it can arrive early & they can watch Disney cartoons in room while everyone gets ready early so you can be at the turnstiles at opening (or at MM opening) :thumbsup2

Their menu:

:)

Would RFC be takeout or just table service?

Nothing in the hotel like the food courts at the WDW resorts?

I don't think there's anything inside the hotel, but I may be wrong. We have never stayed at the DLH. I know PPH has a little counter place downstairs where you can get continental type items. We had good luck w/ the room service, and did it a few times on our last trip. It was much easier for a party of our size.

There's also a Starbucks Coffe cart and a Jamba Juice. You can also place an order at Vons to be delivered to the hotel and DLH has a fridge so you could order some breakfast foods and keep them your room. Some yogurt, milk maybe some fruit. If they have a coffee maker you can also do the instant oatmeal and just run water through it so that you have hot water.

Thanks for the ideas. It was nice staying at the Carousel because you had the option of McDonald's and IHOP! ITA it's too far of a walk for breakfast from DL.

Are there any restaurants or fast food places along Walnut Street? Isn't that the street the runs the other side of DLR closer to DLH?

DLH has The Coffee Shop which is a small counter service location where you can pick up quick breakfast items such as cereal and milk, fruit, pastries, and coffee. They also make specialty coffee drinks. I'm not sure what time they open, but since they have breakfast items, I'd imagine they open somewhat early. Maybe 7:00 am :confused3. I don't think you'll find hot items (breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, eggs, etc) there though.

There is no charge for Fridge or Coffee Maker, they do supply some coffee, tea, and sugar/cream packets. The coffee shop is a great place for pastries and such, we picked up things there for snacks and breakfast as well. They carry milks, juices, water, etc. also.

Unfortunately, you aren't going to find what I think you are looking for staying at the DLH....while it is so magical to stay there, you are kind of held hostage when it comes to food. Ease of breakfast is one reason some choose to stay off-site; we have often opted to stay at Embassy Suites or someplace like that in order to get a nice hot breakfast each morning (though we do love DLH!.

As others have said, most anywhere in DTD is not super convenient to the hotel to go pick up hot food and bring it back - there are several places to pick up danish/muffin type things or are sit-down restaurants. Except for RFC, most other places for hot food are at the other end of DTD.

That being said, when we stay at the DLH I have sent my hubby to White Water Snacks at the GC for hot breakfast items while I am getting the kids ready - not super close but OK in a pinch. Usually, though, we either do cold items (banana bread from home, yogurts etc) or stop in at La Brea Bakery for hot breakfast on our way to the parks, after every one is ready.

La Brea Bakery has huge items for breakfast, so very easy to split and keep costs down, but again, it is at the far side of DTD from the DLH, so can't really go there and pick hot stuff up to bring back.

I was going to mention WWS at GC. We eat lunch there quite often when visiting DLR. They do have hot breakfast as well as a toaster and microwave for customers to use.

At RB Jazz Express besides hot breakfast (served until 11 a.m.) they offer beignets all day. Very good, hot, square doughnuts.

If you do got ot McD's make sure to pick up the coupons in the DL Hotel lobby for 10% off. :goodvibes

Many places that serve breakfast really do not open early enough to take the opportunity to get breakfast. If MM is at 0700, you will find nothing in the DTD area or the GCH that serves prior to that time.

Just want to add that LaBrea is wonderful, but pretty pricey. We try to eat in our room when possible. Doable at DL if you order groceries or make a run to Target on Harbor.

I forgot to say you could do what we do when we go to WDW, even when we are on (free) DDP.

We usually have our breakfast in our room. We fly and stop off at Super WM to pick up breakfast goodies. If you are flying and can't get to a market I would pack stuff in my suitcases. Some items you can easily pack are:

Poptarts
Bagels
Bread
Cereal (either those individual boxes stuffed around your suitcase or put a box of cereal in Ziplocs.
Fruit (check to see if you can transport fruit from your state into California)

I would also pack a small toaster. You can get a decent one for under $10 and then just leave it when you go home.

Don't pack any peanut butter. It's hard for the scanners to see through. Could be thought to be something illegal and then they would have to search your luggage. :scared1:

We find that by eating breakfast in the room we save time and money. We don't have a hot breakfast at home everyday so we are fine with cold breakfast while on vacation.

I'm all for roomservice. If you aren't staying too many days it is worth the treat. Your kids and you can have it delivered early so as not to waste any time. Get a good filling breakfast and you may be able to skip lunch! This will pay for the breakfast.

this is what we did, it may or may not appeal to you. We brought food with us and ate a small breakfast in our rooms while we were getting ready. We bought bagels and cream cheese, muffins, cereal & milk, instant oatmeal (used hot water from the faucet and it was hot enough, could also use coffee maker hot water) grapes, canteloupe. We brought a toater and a grilled cheese maker. I dont know if its allowed though. With that we were able to have scrambled eggs, and I even used it to heat up brown and serve sausage. That got us in the park. I packed a mid morning snack for the kids and then we had a good lunch in the park. Nobody went hungry, and it saved us some money and the time of getting ready and then going out to find something to eat. One morning we stopped at wetzels pretzels and got those on the our way in the park and the kids munched on pretzel bites all day.

Thanks for all the tips! We usually do take some stuff to eat in the room and with a fridge that will help as well! We'll just plan on eating couple breakfasts out or ordering in room service.

Odd that the GC has someplace with a microwave and toaster but the other 2 DL resorts don't. :confused3 I usually take bagels and toast them in the microwave at the values.

This was my experience as well.

Which is why (for us) room service (one meal for two people) worked well. They delivered it at 6:10am so we were still able to get to the bag check (for MM) at :30.

& if Mrs. Hound sent me to the GCH (from the DLH) to pick up hot food items & schlep them back to the DLH (for items that could have been delivered to our room at 6am).....then the second time she asked, i'd be going Ralph Kramden on her....."pow....to the moon Alice". :lmao:
