Hello! We will be going on our first Disney cruise(first cruise ever) in May on the Wonder. I know we will eat dinner in the main dining rooms. Is there anywhere else we can eat breakfast and lunch besides room service or the buffet?

Another question is how soon should we order passports? It says 10 weeks online...is that accurate in your personal experience?

Thanks!

Breakfast and lunch are served in the buffet, as well as Parrot Cay (buffet) and, most days, Triton's (sit-down service). As well as the quick serve locations on the pool deck.

Oops - missed your second question. Get your passport now. No sense in delaying it.

Why not just apply for passport asap?

Not sure where you're seeing 10 weeks, the state dept website said 4 to 6 weeks when I looked a couple weeks ago. Mine was a renewal and turned around in two weeks. My sons will be his first and it's still in process. So new vs renewal seems to make a difference.

Thank you for your response. Do you prefer any of those options or is the food basically the same?

I've just been so busy and haven't had a chance to look into the whole process to apply for them but I will definitely make it a priority to get it done soon.

I prefer breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet but Tritons for lunch. It's nice to have a sit down lunch with bread service and dessert and discuss what is going on for the day.

The buffet in Parrot Cay is similar to the buffet in Beach Blanket Buffet, but smaller. You are escorted to a table, and order your drinks, then go to the buffet. You drinks are brought by a server.

There's a specific menu in Triton's. You can see various menus here: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/menus/ to get an idea of what's available. We've eaten in Triton's for lunch, and the food is good. The hamburger is HUGE!

We typically do the regular buffet for breakfast, skip lunch (except occasionally) and just pick up something at the poolside quick serve (Yummm - chicken tenders), and then have early seating for dinner.

I recently received an expedited renewal passport in about two weeks (applied December 22) and my husband received his non-expedited renewal passport in about three weeks (he applied a couple days after I did). We both applied on-line. I overnight mailed my information, but my husband did not.

We all need our first passports for our August cruise, but plan to wait until March after my oldest DD turns 16, so that hers will be good for 10 yrs. vs. 5yrs if we did it now. So, unless you have a reason like mine, I'd start working on the passport stuff now.

My family likes Beach Blanket for breakfast. The kids aren't interested in waiting around for food at Triton's (even though it really doesn't take that long) and also they like the selection at the buffet. (The few times I did get to Triton's for breakfast were fine, but it didn't wow me, so I don't mind sticking w/ buffet for breakfast). I'm going to try to get them to try Parrot Cay buffet for breakfast next time, though- it's sounds a lot less chaotic.

For lunch, we most often get the chicken strips (and there's a few other things, too) at Pluto's Dog House. Or the sandwiches and fruit at Goofy's Gallery. Both of those places are near the kid's pool. We do not like the pizza at Pinocchio's Pizzeria, so we don't bother w/ that (though we do get the pretzels there for a late-night snack).

There is also the Palo brunch (or dinner) option... it's a lovely and tasty kid-free meal option worth considering as well! (Note: there's an upcharge of $30, you need a reservation, and there's a dress code).

We love having breakfast and lunch in the MDR if we have time. I'm just a fan of fresh, hot food cooked to order. If it's a sea day or we have a little bit of extra time, we always try to at breakfast or lunch in the MDR. If we have an excursion or we're pressed for time, we'll do the buffet or quick service options by the pool. We usually only use room service for between meals and snacks. It just takes too long and unless we're doing something in the room, we're generally not in the room long enough to warrant hanging out there waiting for food to arrive.

We are the same, especially as we don't have to worry about feeding starving or finicky kids. I avoid Cabanas unless I'm pressed for time, though I've been known to go there for 1st Breakfast (like a pastry) since I get up a good 1-2 hours before DW. DW also finds better GF options at the MDRs. I often have a small late afternoon snack to tide me over until late seating.

Went to post office for renewal for DD Dec 23 and got in less the 3 weeks. Same when we applied for new passports 5 years ago.

On a first cruise I would try out all your breakfast and lunch options and figure out what you like best. We enjoy a sit down breakfast served to us in Tritons and a buffet lunch in Parrot Cay. I find the choices for the sit down lunch in Tritons to be poor. Sometime we grab a quick lunch of fast food by the pool. i usually stay away from Beach Blanket as much as possible. You will figure out what you like best pretty quickly.

I'm also the early riser in my group. I usually pop out to Cabanas and pick up pastries and fruit to bring back to the room. Sometimes it isn't open so then I hit up the quick service near the pool for fruit and pastries. After that, we all eat together later in the morning.

Luckily, my DD (7 years) isn't super picky. In fact, one of her favorite meals was some salmon for lunch from the MDR. She frequently orders off the adult menu, though, she's also a fan of Mac and Cheese.

Like others have said, you learn quickly what you do and don't like. Yes, the choices in the MDR are limited, but you can look at the menu for that day prior to sitting down so if nothing catches your fancy, just head to Parrot Cay. You can also do the reverse: take a swing through Parrot Cay and if none of the dishes on display look tasty, head down to Triton's.

We usually do buffet for breakfast. The menu in the MDRs is a bit more limited, IMO. Although sometimes if we get up late on a sea day we may just go to the MDR so that we can start the day off slow. I have to admit that we've been doing the MDRs for lunch more often than not just to be a bit lazy. The advantage with the buffet is that you can have a little bit of a lot of different things if there's not something you really really like. But if there's nothing on the MDR menu I really like, I can usually find a salad and an appetizer that's good and that's enough for me for lunch. And I can sit and let someone serve me.
