Branding the kiddos

The family photo idea is a great one!

We met a family (the mom is a pediatrician) who wrote the cell # and some other info that I don't exactly remember on the kids legs with a permanent marker! I thought that was a quick, easy and cheap solution!

My nieces are 3 and 10 and I am not too worried about the 3 year old, she wont dare let me out of her site but the 10 year old has ADHD and if something catches her eye she goes right to it.....

DH and I are going to make an ID bracelet for each kid....the little one with freak if she doesnt get the same thing the older one gets....and have their names, our names, our cell phone numbers on it and the girls will know why they have such a thing.....they are not too expensive, we get them from the monogram place in the malll....

We also had been going back and forth on how to 'brand' the kids. We've tried the bracelets that you can buy at Walgreens (silicone ones I think) and the sharpie ink just rubbed right off.
Then I bought the terry cloth wrist bands but who am I kidding our 2 yr old will rip it off and lose it in exactly 2.3 seconds.
So I checked out that armynavy.com and just ordered two tags for them. No shipping costs, yay!
I feel better, I can attach those to their shoes, triple knot them even..our 2 yr old is stubborn.
I was always worried about using a sharpie on their skin because it may take awhile to wash off? Plus personal info so out in the open I'll end up with so many ppl calling and asking me if I want to buy something or other with my luck!
So thanks for the info, it definately helped us!!

Hi My DD now 6 is a wanderer! She can't help herself. I write our cell # and my name and our resort name (initals)on the runners (on the side of the rubber that faces each other) She dose'nt care to wear necklaces or braclettes for longer that 20 mins and so I became a little creative.

I just went to petsmart and bought an actual dog tag. I strung it through his shoe lace when he wore tennis shoes and when he wore crocs, I put it on his belt loop. He never left the room without making sure he had his tag and we practiced what to say and who to look for if he couldnt find us.

We had 2 dog tags engraved by
www.armynavy.com
for $5.95 w/free shipping. We attached them to the kiddos shoes.
Reasons I liked them best
not readable by passersby but definitely noticeable in case the child was lost
our kids left them alone which they wouldn't do with bracelets or necklaces
WATERPROOF
cheap

(bought kidtagz for shoes and the writing smeared badly, so we went with the engraved tag idea)

HTH
I have to agree this is the best idea. I went and had small dog tags made and put them on my kids shoes. I put their names on it and my cell phone number. My kids are 21mon. and 3yrs old.

we went with the army dog tags, 2 for each kid.

I plan to put one of them on the shoes... my 14 month old has never worn shoes so I have no idea how exactly I plan to make this work.

The second tag will be pinned with a cloth diaper pin to the 1 year olds shirt and I think necklace style on the 3 year old.

we have 1 month till our trip and yesterday my 3 year old wondered off for the first time ever yesterday :sad2:

I got the Who's Shoes and velcro bracelet. A couple problems to warn others about:
1. The bracelet is very scratchy. DS wore it happily, but when I took it off later that day, his poor little wrist was all red.

2. DS will only wear his Crocs these days. No way to attach the Who's Shoes things on Crocs!

I think I'll make a very small LGMH with my contact info on it, laminate it and tie it to his Crocs with a little piece of ribbon or embroidery thread, just for a back-up.

My kids are a little older than yours, but my DD is a "drifty". In addition to finding some way to "label" each child, I HIGHLY recommend wearing matching Tshirts. We usually wear tie-dye. It's not the most flattering thing, but wow! It's much easier to spot the tie-dye design in a crowd than a solid-color shirt, and if one kid wanders off, you can tell any CM to look for a kid in a shirt just like yours.

We plan to make several shirts in different color schemes for our next trip.
