Brand new DVDs that skip

What's up with brand new dvds that skip? Some of the brand new dvds work great on our dvd player. No problems whatsoever. Other dvds are brand new and they skip. It's frustrating.

I'd think that the problem could our dvd player, but this skipping isn't consistant. Today we opened a 2 disk set. The first disk worked just fine and ds loved the first half of the movie. The second disk is skipping all of the time and is driving me nuts, and I'm not even watching the movie. He is watching it with the skipping. : (

Might be time to clean the DVD lens...... Also, not every DVD is burned exactly the same way. Any deviation in the burning process could cause this. If you dont have an actual lens cleaner, try blowing compressed air inside.

Skipping is often more prevalent with DVDs that have more data on them (longer films, for example). Also, it could also be a remnant of newer copy protection mechanisms, for which older DVD players are not as well-calibrated to adjust to.
