Thanks to everyone who answered my many, many questions on hair braiding. It really helped.

We have decided to have my daughter's hair braided on the ship. So, here are my questions:

1. Where, when and how do you sign up?

2. Are there pictures of the different designs they can do or is it all just one way?

3. She has hair down to the bottom of her shoulder blades and wants to get her whole head done. About how much would that cost? About how long would it take?

4. What times are they offered on the ship? We were hoping to have it done in the afternoon of our Nassau day.

5. Any other suggestions, helpful tips or comments?

Thanks in advance! :cool1:

Hi, we made our appointment at Preludes, which is a snack bar near the shops on deck 4. You can ask immediately at guest services, in case it is different, as these fill up very very quickly.

They have a small photo album with different ideas and braid designs. The cost last September was 2$ per braid, and my daughter's whole head was 40$ plus tip. She was 5 and has a head full of hair.

They start at 9 or 10 am on the ship, not at all sure till when (sorry). We had this done 3 times on our daugher, and the ones that lasted were the ones done on the boat. They do it on the islands, but in my honest opinion, although cheaper, it did not last half as long.

My tips would be ENJOY your cruise to the fullest... :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: skies

Just got off the 1/29 Magic and my dd had her hair braided onboard.

Sign-up was the first day at 5:30 pm outside the Walt Disney Theater. Unfortunately this was just as the ship was setting sail, but I'm glad I went as appointments filled up quickly.

My daughter had her hair braided on Sunday morning at 9am - right after the character breakfast, and before Key West. This was the first appointment of the day. She had 8 braids and it cost $8 and took about 10 minutes.

While there, other folks came by asking where to sign up. The hairbraiders only work on At Sea days and told them they were booked for the week.

Hope this info helps!

My daughters have had their hair braided on Disney 4 times now. We were also on 1/29 Western...so they just had it done again.

Remember, it hurts...prepare your daughter so she is not surprised. I give my girls Tylenol and they say that does help. They have to do it tight so it will not fall out. The third time, they had their whole head briaded the first day and they were so disappointed because it was falling out by the 4th day. It was expensive as they both have very long hair. I went to guest services and they looked at them and issued a credit for the braiding. I took it out and we had it re-braided on Castaway Cay.

If she wants her hair braided only for the cruise, braids all over would be fine....they will not last very long after you get home though (at least that has been our experience. My girls like to have it braided for a while after we get home....I do to, then I do not have to fix there haid each morning. :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

My girls have both decided they like the top braids...they braid them back to a crown and then the hair just hangs down their back. These last many weeks after we get home.

I hope this helps in some way.

So do they not braid hair on board on the 3 day cruises? My 2 girls(and maybe me) were hoping to get it done on board in July.

You could also get it done on the island, just dont let them charge too much, bargain with them... And be careful with the braids... Remember to put suntan lotion on the parts... I saw SO many girls crying because their scalps got burnt... I did that once in Ocean City.. It's very painful. :sad2:

Have you found that this damaged their hair at all when you took out the braids? Also, did their head hurt when the braids were in? I thought it might hurt having the hair pulled tight in braids. I'd love to get my 5 year olds done on our May cruise but have worried about damaging her nice hair.

Thanks, Sue

My hair was damaged 9 years ago when I had it done. It took me quite a while to be able to do a decent ponytail after that. However, I think it has a lot to do with your hair. My hair is fine so it breaks easily. I now have sons (and short hair), so braiding is not an issue for me anymore. However, if I had a daughter, I would at least get advice from whoever cuts her hair before doing it. That person could probably give you an opinion as to how strong your daughter's hair is and how much risk there is of breakage. In my case I had a lot of breakage at ear level. The braids don't give much, so the day-to-day pulling from regular activities like pulling on a top over your head, tossing in your sleeping, etc. can be more than the hair can take. Some people have no damage, so I guess it's a question of genetics...

I'm still confused. So on a 3 day, can we get it done on board? I know that they do it in Nassau or on Castaway Cay, but what about just onboard ship?

Does anyone know the answer to Caropooh's question? Can you still get braiding done onboard the 3 day? Thanks!

I don't know if this is old information or not. But back in 2003, my dd got her hair braided on board the 3 night Wonder. We got it done on the day we were docked at Nassau.

Hopefully this is still the case, because we are going on the 3 night again in June and I would think that she wants to get it done again.
