When we move (and I have some time - probably until late summer depending on when we find a house) I want to re-do my son's bedroom. He loves trains and I'd like to make it train-themed.
His bed is a dark wood, traditional looking, so I thought it would be fun to make his room more of a vintage train station theme.
My ideas so far are to have a few "travel by train" posters on his wall (I've already ordered a New York one), I'd like to make a toy box look like an antique trunk (paint it to look like leather, leather handles on the sides, vintage destination stickers on it, etc), get a train station type clock (wrought iron holder with a double face), and turn a couple of cheap tin lanterns into lamps.
Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm a little afraid of it being too dark. Any ways besides the posters that I can brighten it up? What color would you paint the walls?
Oh, I thought it would be cute to make a ceiling fan look like a railroad crossing sign, but would that look strange with the vintage theme?
