My 9 year old is very thin. I can find 10 slim pants for him but I am having trouble with swim trunks. In order to fit him in the waist, I'd have to buy 2 sizes smaller and then they are too short. Lands End has suits in slim sizes but they are $25 apiece. Has anyone here seen swim suits in slims? TIA.

My boy is 8 and slim but tall so he has to wear size 10, we found swim trunks that fit him well at Old Navy.

I have this same problem with my older son. I _do _ end up getting him ones that are 2, or more, sizes too small (funny to think of my 10 year old in size 8 swim trunks when he wears size 14 slim pants for the length - he's very tall - but, ofcourse, the waist on the pants is either taken in or has those genius 'tabbies' in them.) I just look for trunks that seem to run on the long size - I've had great luck at Old Navy for that. (fortunately, they make them quite long right now and even though I may see his as a bit short no one else seems to notice, even he doesnt notice.:thumbsup2) It's been better as he ages because more of them have waists that can be velcro'ed in tighter or tightened w/ strings (they were all elastic waists when he was younger.)

Good luck!

I also recomend Old Navy! Our oldest had alsways been in a slim and they have worked well for us...run between $15-$20 and they are well made. HTH!

I just found some on the Lands End Website in the overstocks section. They are only 7.99 too.

I never heard of slim sized swim suits. I buy my very skinny DS11 and DS9 swim suits from Walmart and take in the waist band. It takes me about 5 minutes.

My son is almost 9 and he fits into a size 6-7 swim suit! He is wear a regular size 8 or a size 10 slim depending on the pants length but he can fit into size 7 shorts!

If all else fails you could buy competitive swimming jammers. These can be a little pricey, but they are all lycra and are very narrowly cut. And as an added bonus they are nice and slick for getting some speed on water slides.

My oldest is very thin. My MIL just takes his suits in a little bit. Takes her less than 5 minutes.

I *don't* like Old Navy. I made the mistake of buying two suits there for DS last year that I THOUGHT had drawstrings, but discovered that the "drawstring" is just a fake tie in front that is useless for tightening the waist.

My vote is for Kohl's. Every house-brand suit I've ever bought there has a drawstring waist, so that DS can tighten them up as much as he needs to. He likes the patterns, too.

PS: Wearing a couple of sizes down works well when they are little, but with swimwear can present problems as they grow older. DS is 12, and puberty is hitting him full-force. Often the liner inside the trunks is cut much smaller for younger boys -- older ones need some extra room for their bits, if you understand my meaning.

Hanna Anderson's Boys swim suits are rediculously long, IMO:

DS loved a pair they had last year at the outlet but he wore them as "man-pris" (capris for men, lol) instead of shorts. You can call the outlets and see if they have any in a size or two down they will mail out to you if you don't want to pay $33.

For swim trunks I have DS wear a couple sizes down. I don't like all the drag the really long, baggy ones provide so he has shorter shorts than most boys but ones that he can actually move in. I just this last year convinced him to get rid of his toddler sized ones (he is 7.5 and wears a 7S).

I have the same problem with my 10 and 8 yr old sons. Walmart had
swimming trunks with an actual drawstring inside of them, not the
fake looking one. I bought an extra pair for each of them.
