Boys' State Nomination

DS16 just received a nomination (along with 2 other boys) from his high school to attend Boys' State. He is excited about doing this - anyone have any experience with this? It seems to be quite an honor to be selected?

One of my older ds's got picked to attend Boys State. It was an honor and a really good experience. Also it looked great on his resume when he was applying to college! Congratulations!

Its is an honor. I had several friends in high school who went (to boys and girls state), and had a wonderful time.

I went to Girls State when I was in highschool. I learned a lot from the experience and wouldn't hesitate to send one of my children if the opportunity arose.

Great college-app booster. One of my good friends went in high school and still brings it up every now and then. Apparently was a great experience! Congrats to your son!

Yes, my son was selected and had a really great experience. He said he learned so much about how laws are passed but couldn't believe how long the process can take. It gave him an appreciation of how our system works.

Wow - it's great to hear that so many of you have had experience with this. It's the first I've heard of it. It looks like a week long immersion in government, law-making, etc. Also, it seems that the sponsoring American Legion pays for everything? DS already told his guidance counselor that he plans to go!

Congratulations, what an honor for your DS to selected ! It's a great program sponsored and paid for by American Legion that really helps build character, discipline and teamwork. In the 80's our DS attended at Ft. Meade, DD2 attended Girls State at Washington College and both benefited greatly. It's a wonderful opportunity to learn how our government operates while meeting kids from all over the state with similar interests and achievements.

My DH went to Boys State back in the late 70's. He still talks about the great experience he had.

I went to Girls' State. It was a great experience! Students are chosen for grades and good citizenship.
