Boys can go to space too ... A May/June 2016 trip report

Saturday 4th June

You'll all be glad to know, that when Z woke up he was all better :-) I think it was getting very wet and then not getting dry quickly enough. And here is the photo to prove it.

[Z all better now, and me trying to by arty by going black and white]

And one of A, just to be fair :-)

He really doesn't get ill very often, saying that, a few weeks after we got back, he came down with very red cheeks and running a temperature. We even took him to the doctors, at the doctors they worked out he hadn't been to see them since 2010 (apart from standard immunisations) and gave him is first antibiotics ever, for scarlet fever. He is back to normal now.

We had a slow morning, with breakfast at the Mara, before heading to our 2nd day at Epcot. We had lunch booked for the coral reef, so headed over to the Seas and went to see crush. Z was 'small one with a blue shell'. He asked what Crush like to eat (sea grass which turns him green). Crush then asked what Z's favorite food is, turns out it is chicken.

Then off for lunch. The coral reef is a fantastic venue, I could look at the aquarium for ages. The food was only OK. We had slightly overdone fish. A did have a good steak and her chocolate wave (a chocolate fondent) was excellent.

Then we went, with a fp, to see Spaceship Earth. R didn't ride, but the 3 of us listened to Dame Judi, very civilized. Z liked it.

Then we promised the kids ice cream, so headed up to Italy, via a frozen Margarita in Mexico for the grown ups. It was so hot, again. Both drinks and ice creams were excellent, but melted so fast. It was so hot.

We also went for another Agent P mission, this time in China. Well Z ran around doing it, with help from A and OH, and I sat and drank and took photos.

Then onwards to Japan, to pick up the had I had seen earlier in the week :-) Ameila got some more stuff and Z got another cuddly toy.

We then called it quits on the park. But on the way out we used another fast pass to meet the mouse, his girl and dog. :-)

Bus back to AK.

We finally managed to get to the fire pit for marshmallows :-)

[by the fire photo ... when I get it into photobucket]

Dinner was at the mara (well it is easy, even if it isn't that good). Gosh, it takes a long time to be served and then fed there.

Then back to the room for tv and sleep.

Last morning is coming next :-( I'm going to try an in some of the photos of AK, and do the 'good and bad bits' summary.

Glad Z recovered quickly :)
I've been thinking of changing up some dinners for our Nov. trip and just looked at the Coral Reef menu again-we haven't been since 2010 or 2011. But it isn't really appealing to me. I remember the tank being cool, but reviews aren't too favorable and yours tells me we should probably look elsewhere if I want to change.

it was the worst ts meal we had in the holiday. you would really expect a fish restaurant to be able to cook fish. mind you it was fun teasing the kids about eating nemo.

Sunday 5th June. Our last morning :-(

We thought about going back to a park, But the pool won. Well two kids thought it was the best place. And getting them using up some energy wasn't a bad plan with an 8 hour flight looming.

So we fitted lots of stuff into bags. We seem to have a lot more to take home then we bought with us ... Zach has acquired soft toys, Amelia has pins and clothes. I have a new hat and lots of clothes, OH has lots and lots of polo shirts.

R returned the car whilst me and the kids had breakfast and hit the pool, after leaving the bags with the bell hop. OH came back and got a bacon sarnie as a meal on the dinning plan (3 snacks - 1 portion of toast and 2 lots of bacon). Then, about 12, a shower and lunch at lunch at the Mara. Salad for OH, corn beef sandwich for me, A had a burger and Z a hot dog.

Our next mission was to use up as many of the snack credits we had left as we could. cookies, jelly babies, trail mix (which was very good) were got.

Then we took the Disney Express back to the airport. We went straight through check in, with no queue! We had a bit of time going through security, but I've been in a worse queue at Stansted once. Then waiting again, for a plane.

We got on board on time, but were delayed for an hour because of thunderstorms.

Flight home was uneventful, various amounts of sleep where had by all, but not enough.

We made it back to the UK the next morning, got the taxi back to the hotel to pick up our car (left a mickey in the taxi, but they sent it onwards later) and then drove back home. It was a very tired journey home. We tried very hard to stay awake for the rest of the day as we all got back to work and school the next morning.

So some pictures of he AKL and the view from our balcony as I haven't posted any before.

After Thoughts

There will be a next time, whatever the OH says. His view is it was a once in a lifetime holiday and we have now 'done disney'. But he is wrong on this one. He really doesn't want to go back (you might have noticed he doesn't do rides) so maybe just the kids and I go ... you don't need a car with the magic express so I wouldn't have to drive on the wrong side of the road.

Our niece is also working very near Disneyland Paris, so we just might have to go and visit her too, I haven't been back there for over 20 years ...

Though I loved staying at AKL, next time we will go for a slightly more central location (so we can nip back into the parks in the evening). I was thinking either the beach club (because of the pool) or the poly ... it looks like I'm a deluxe kinda girl :-).

We will try and get on more rides and see all the fireworks (rides will be easier without OH, and A might manage to stay up a bit later, or be ok in the room on her own as she will be a bit bigger).

Breaks in the afternoon do work, but we needed to plan evening meals either later or not at the other side of the park. Buses usually work, but you do occasionally need patience, and do leave an hour or so if it is really important to get somewhere.

The food was better than I expected, especially the QS locations, but it really can't be called quick! There was lots of time taken waiting in line for the food order to be taken (especially at the Mara).

Definitely eat at table service restaurants. Or favorite meals were: Boma for breakfast, Tusker House for breakfast. Jiko for Dinner, California Grill was good too, especially for the view and fireworks.

The kids really liked the burgers and shakes at Sci-fi diner.

I wouldn't bother going back to the Coral Reef again.

The QS in Morocco was really good. Upstairs at MK's Columbia House was sanity in the madness and heat and they did vegetables.

The hotel TS restaurants we tried were all all good and worth making the effort to get to.

Not sure if the DP is worth real money (but it is thrown in with the deal when you book your hotel/tickets early enough in the UK). But it does make things very easy and takes out the constant counting that OH would otherwise be doing. It meant we did the TS and 2TS meals and they were some of the highlights of the holiday. I hate that the tips aren't included in the price, they do really add up at 20% per meal.

The magic express was worth it, not having to queue to pick up a car and work out driving in a foreign country when you are tired from the plane was great.

  • When in a park, get to your first ride, then do breakfast :-)
  • It is going to cost a lot of money!
  • Remember it is a walking holiday .. with heat thrown in.
  • Nasa needs way more time.

Next year A gets to choose the (cheaper) holiday ... She is aiming to go to the lake district in the UK (as she is reading swallows and amazons at the moment). Z is planning the year after, he was thinking Italy again (and we are gently suggesting Sardinia), then OH gets his wish, which will be Vietnam.

So hopefully in 4 years time (that's 2020) ... we will be back.

Read your latest report and you mentioned that no one commented. So I am commenting. Loved the English slang. Enjoyed seeing your kids grow up. Totally understand the questionable parenting decision of dragging a soaking wet kids through the parks, I make those types of decisions too with my kids at Disney.

Bad parenting decisions are the only way to go. Its part of being a parent. The only other thing we have to do is embarrass them at regular intervals. Loving ypur report btw.
