We were in Disney in January 2008 and they offered us 30% off of a Mod resort if we booked before we checked out. So, we booked a trip for Sept 2008. I know free dining is usually offered at the same time. So my question is, if free dining is offered should we cancel our trip and go to the free dining package? Can we even do that? I'm so confused. Any advice would help. :confused3

The best place to start with this question is how many people will be going, and what ages...I have run the numbers all sorts of ways, value, mod, deluxe, but only for myself, DH, and DS3. I'd be happy to help if I can! :)

Well, I did run some numbers and if I switched to a value resort it would cost us about 1,500. Right now, we're paying about 2100 to stay at CBR from Sept 21-27. That includes dining. It's me, dh and our 2 kids ages 7 and 6. If I'm already booked, can I cancel then switch to another package if there's availabilty? Also, I already booked our ADR's, so if I do happen to switch, would I also have to cancel my ADR's? I would hate to lose them. Thanks for your help!

:) The only thing I'm not sure about is the ADR problem. I'm not sure how that works if you cancel and rebook since I believe it is tied to your confirmation number. However, I thought I read on here that some people are able to book ADRs without conf. numbers, and use their phone numbers instead...hopefully some other DISers can weigh in on this one.

Now my numbers are for 2 adults, 1 child based on a seven night stay and 6 day MYW hoppers, keeping in mind that upgrading to a 7 day hopper really is only a few dollars more. I did a comparison of values, mods, and deluxes and what I discoverd in my comparison is that with values and mods free dining is a better discount than getting a 40% off room code and paying for dining. I am guessing this would hold true for you as well, since you are a family of four. If you'd like the exact numbers, feel free to PM me, or I can post them here, whatever you prefer.

IMHO, the best time to use a 30% or 40% discount is if you've been dying to stay in a deluxe and just couldn't justify it without a discount. Believe me, if I got a code for 40%, I would nix the free dining and stay deluxe...I just can't justify it otherwise.

Hope this helps!

You know, I totally agree with you. We always stay at ASMo and we do love it, but two years ago, we stayed at CBR and what a difference! It was so beautiful and the coffee maker in the room did it for me! Lol
My husband and I talked last night and we both agreed maybe it's best to just leave it alone. Thanks for your help! I appreciate it. :goodvibes

Okay, this totally goes against all my budget board instincts, but if you really like the mod, keep it! If free dining comes out, it'll be a better deal, and if doesn't, you'll be happy where you are...I think that's the most important thing, as long as you have the funds to swing it.

This year for us has been very big on paying down DH's student loan...therefore, my dream of staying at the Poly has been put on the back burner...for us, it's just not feasible without a code, and I've called, and no such luck. So I'm hoping for free dining, and if it comes out and we can book, we'll be at the Pop. I have been there for the past two years, and even though it can be over the top and loud and full kids, you know what? I love it! As long as I can get a room away from the noise, and partake in it when I'm at the pool or food court or whatever, then it's great. DH loves the slushy cokes, and we always get the refillable mugs. DS3 loves the pools, icons, you name it. I look at pics of Pop and to me it looks like our Disney home.

Now, there's been some speculation...who can say...that Disney will only offer free dining at mods on up...in that case, I'd book a mod. I also priced that, and to stay at Pop and pay for food is a little bit more money than staying at a mod and getting it for free, so even though it increases our overall package price, I'd do it.

Wow, was that a ramble! Sorry! I've totally enjoyed this thread though, feel free to respond!:thumbsup2

You're right, if in fact free dining is offered then the Value resort will be considerably cheaper. In that case, it might pay to switch, no pun intended, lol.
Now if the dining is offered to mods then I'm all set! Thanks again.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you either way! :goodvibes
