BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

Well we are in it for good or bad for October.. :/ Hopefully it's not horrible. Was going to swap back over to AKL but no full availability for my dates now.. Only thing is SSR.. Going to remain positive.. We arent huge pool people so that doesnt bother me. It'll be fine I'm sure..

I'm so torn about where to stay the week after Thanksgiving! It's our kids (3 and 5 ) first trip, and we really wanted to stay MK side. We were alls et to stay WL but now I'm nervous about all the construction going on. I just don't think the other MK hotels will be in the budget :( Maybe AK is a good option. Oh the first world struggle HAHAH!

Was there in February , construction at the time was no issue, only saw evidence when walking from villas to docks, had to take the long way. Also the south wing was blocked off as well

It was actually great because the amount of guests were lower than usual. Minimal lines at roaring forks and busses/boats

One of the reasons we enjoy staying at WL is the fact that there are less rooms as compared to other resorts and I always feel like there are less guests there which is even better now

Already booked to return for TG this year

I would opt for WL over AK especially if it's important to you to be at a MK resort. We were at WL last November the week before Thanksgiving and were able to witness the holiday decorations going up. What a treat! :yay: Yes, there is construction but the benefits of being at WL instead of AK far outweigh the cons...especially if you need to return to the resort for a mid-afternoon break. Your travel time will be greatly reduced. Your children would probably enjoy the AKL but if your heart is set on being closer to MK (which with children your age I would also opt for) WL is the place to be. :tink:

Nope.

This is a new DVC property. It will be 100% separate from the existing VWL. There are a lot of reasons for this involving condo association rules and return-to-use life. No way they build the new stuff and attach it to a 2042 RTU. It was announced as a new property last September.

It's an expansion of DVC in general, and an expansion of the greater WL property, but it's its own condo association, basically.
I'm dying to see if adding the new DVC to the resort will lower dues on the older VWL. New pool will have higher costs. They may or may not run more boats (guessing not). The converted hotel rooms mean the hotel will be picking up a lower portion of the costs than before. Rats, it's looking like a big fat "nope" the more I think on it.

On the other hand, while the hotel will pick up less costs, the new DVC association will also be assessed dues.

I'm sorry, the new DVC having dues was implied, in with "adding the new DVC". The only thing we can do is wait and see as it is all a balancing act of numbers, the VWL dues could go down, up or even stay the same.

Hi everyone! We are in a trip predicament. We had planned to book our July trip at WL, but with the construction, we opted for a good rate at the Poly. My husband is now working during our planned travel dates, and the Poly is super expensive for the week we plan to go now in August. Can anyone give any update on the construction if you've been the WL lately? We have to decide between the WL and the GF. We love the WL, and it would save us $$ we could take another trip next summer, but wonder if the construction will just be too bad. Thanks!

I found the below posts from recent guests. I just went back a couple pages, I bet you can find more if you go back a little further.

Agree. Yes, there is construction, and while I may not particularly like the notion of the serenity of the Lodge being disturbed long-term, I will say that when we were there a few weeks ago, the disruption was minimal. As I've often said, if any sort of construction isn't one's cup of tea, then by all means avoid WL/VWL for the next year and a half or more. However, if you don't mind a bit of fencing, plan to be gone most of the day, and want to enjoy the lobby, music, and food at the Lodge, I'd say give it a shot. ;)

We just got back from a two-week stay at VWL (on the Bay Lake/Construction side, at the end of the hall) and the construction didn't affect us much. The biggest negative effects for us were not being able to go the back way to/from Roaring Fork and the boat docks. The biggest positive effect was that the place is wonderfully uncrowded. Lines were great at Roaring Fork. Heck, most of the time there were no lines! Finding a table was a breeze. All the other facilities and amenities were similar. That part was great!

Hey just got back from WL club level and it was awesome! Check out www.youtube/veromikes

I just got back from 5 nights in a Courtyard room at WL. I'm so glad I didn't change our plans, like I was considering due to the construction. While it was noticeable outside near the docks and the pool, it wasn't disturbing or noisy. In the lobby, it wasn't obvious at all unless you knew to look up at the closed off side of the resort. My family wasn't bothered at all. One morning we heard a faint humming that we assumed was construction machinery, but it would not have woken us up. The boats and buses were empty as was Roaring Forks.

One person's "not an issue" is another person's "completely horrible" when it comes to construction. We are planning a December trip and have decided to keep our reservation at VWL for that time. At WL, the construction impact is much, much less than VWL.

They say it will be finished in 2017 which isn't very helpful for planning.
Going from what we saw over at the Poly, there's a good chance that the Silver Springs pool won't be rebuilt until all the construction dust is gone, so it will be the last element added, even if the new units are opened and selling in mid 2017.

2018 is the safest bet for planning, and when I'm hoping to be able to get back in at the original VWL rooms. I have no interested in the new unless they add an indoor waterfall to the showers. :)

Hi All, I was offered a great discount to stay club level at WL. Is it worth it with all the construction? Also, I heard the old faithful club was actually under renovation and it was more of a temporary location with less offerings? Does anyone have any infromation on this? thanks so much!
