Bottom line whats the best dicount disney offers?

is it the free dining the 40% ? something else?

My guess: the right answer will vary according to a person's length of stay and resort needs.

Offering me free food is always nice. Getting 40% off a deluxe would be very good too. Monetarily, the 40% code would be the best option since I'd save more on room rates than on free food. I do not think this would be the case for a value resort where the room rates are not as high, but I haven't done the math.

I believe it depends on which level resort you like staying at.

If a value resort, then I think free dining is the best deal because you have to pay rack rate for the resort.

If a deluxe resort, then I'd take the 40%. I have not seen AP discounts better than 40% in a very long time, if ever.

We saved more $$ taking the 40% off a Deluxe and paying for the DDP. It was a wonderful deal...hoping for it again!!!

:goodvibes

it depends.

For us, we didn't get a 40% code but we called about the general discount rate initiated today. Since we wouldn't do park hopping or water parks, our existing AAA rate was better than today's deal. So my answer is..

THE BOTTOM LINE IS IT DEPENDS.

It also depends on the size of your party. Free dining is a $134 discount for us. But a 40% off code (not that we have one) will be better (for us) for a rack rate of $335 or more. Again, not that we have a 40% off code. :rolleyes1 But if we got one, I would use it on CR Tower MK view for a savings of $164 per night.....not that I'm foaming at the mouth to get one of those codes.

I believe the best discount is the 50% off rooms for travel agents and CMs! Works great for us, I'm a TA and my daughter is a CM. :thumbsup2

Are you taking applications for adoptions?

I agree. For deluxe, the best is AP room discount (better than free dining at least for us, park tix upgrades, AAA). Forgot what our AP discount was a few years ago, but I agree about the Deluxe AP discount not always 40% off. We jumped on this week's AP code offering -- The AP discount for our dates/place (May '08, Poly garden-view) is 23% off rack, still OK with us.:wizard:

The answer to this question would be very complex. Like others have said, it depends on the level resort you are staying in, but also I think you would have to know every discount Disney has offered (and we'll just say to the general public, since email/mail codes don't go to everyone) and what its total costs came out to be.

In 2004, my sister and I got a code for $49 a night at values (I don't know any other resort costs though). Last year there was a great code out (again only priced for values) that made the cost per night something like $42 (I don't have the exact numbers because my computer crashed and I lost them all).

When I went in 2006, free dining was an incredible deal. But this was before you had to pay your own tips. I don't think free dining is as great of a deal anymore.

I don't think free ticket upgrades are a good deal either. But that's probably because I don't park hop or go to the water parks or anything. I'd rather have a discount on the room than anything.

Remember that with 40% off, the more expensive the room, the more you save. 40% off concierge at the Poly is "worth" a lot more than 40% off a standard value. The value of free dining is less subjective, and is a flat rate depending on the size of your party and the length of your stay. It's hard to say what's the best "deal" for each family, but it seems the "cheapest way to go" is staying at a value on free dining...or maybe staying at a moderate on 40% off and not eating!

I've learned that you need either an advanced math degree or a really nice CM to get the best bang for your buck at WDW!

ETA: I always start by pricing everything out at rack rate, separately and as a package, and then as each "deal" comes out, I price that out and see what I save. HTH!

40% off the room is the best deal IMO. We usually get the 40% discount and save a bundle. In December we stayed at AKL for $129 a night with a free upgrade to savanna view.:thumbsup2
