SO I'm 41 and I am beginning to notice some slight creasing on my forehead and around my eyes. I guess it's inevitable, I have no poker face and every thought registers an expression... I didn't know it but recently my daughter let me know I even tend to smile ect while I read:rolleyes: So anyway I'm thinking that maybe some botox in some spots might be a good idea but I don't know anyone who does it so I was wondering if people here could give me some info on a personal level. I know I can research it but like so many things, the truth comes from people not brochures.

I think most people look better with a few creases than a puffy face with no movement. Look at Kate as an example:

My girlfriend has a deep crease in her forehead. It has been pretty much resistant to the botox she's gotten(there is a little difference) but she's forging ahead(no pun intended, lol) and I hope she gets some satisfaction. I think she's brave. She is in her early 40's. I'm watching carefully to see what happens to her before I give it much thought. She's had no bad stuff happen and she's had at least three treatments.

I was just talking to a friend yesterday. She's a very pretty girl that has gotten botox several times. She decided not to get it anymore, because her husband told her that it takes all of the expression away from her eyes when she gets it. I agree with him. Just look at Kate, she looks like a zombie!

The thing is, once you start, you have to keep up with it. It only lasts a few months. It's not cheap!

I am so tracking with what you mean! Have never had it done, but have considered it and have talked to several friends who have. You can get it done at a "med" spa but that will not really be done by a Dr. instead you might want to see a bonafide dermatologist who also does this type of procedure, the trick, apparently, is to not put too much botox in. My friends who have had it done look nothing like wacko Kate. I would never have known had they not fessed up. There are other things you can do that a dermatologist might recommend, depending on the lines...Retin A, microderm abrasion, or chemical peel come to mind.
For now I have been doing home facials with a face mask from Elemis (purchased through timetospa.com). Also noticed a difference when I used a product with Retinol last winter and spring. Stopped using the retinol product last summer b/c it made my face way too sensitive to the sun, and with soccer, swim team etc that was a no-go. Come to think of it should give that a go again before all the kids activities start up again!

I get Botox twice a year on my armpits because I'm an excessive sweater and my mom decided I had ruined way too many shirts with sweat marks.. so she made me do it! Since then, I've had amazing results and am very happy that I can use regular deodorant now rather than the very expensive product I was using before.

I can't say much about using it for cosmetic purposes.. but I personally don't see myself ever getting any cosmetic procedures done. I think that it's important to love yourself the way that you are :lovestruc

My mother had botox put in the creases in her forehead and she looks wonderful, more youthful, and not like a zombie at all. When you start botoxing the area near the mouth, there's a good chance you'll get the frozen face look, but the forehead area id different.

aww, you are so sweet... And young I bet. I do love me, I just don't think I'd love the version that could one day resemble a share pei as much as this version:laughing:

OK in all seriousness, I'm not looking to change anything, I would just like to slow my roll.

thanks for the other responses, I didn't realize it had to be done more than once. How does it work, one shot per muscle or many? does it hurt?

PS Kate looks ridiculous, I hope there are less severe versions. I would only go with a full fledged Dr, and a good one at that. I was looking for places in NYC.

I can't do the other stuff like peels and all, my skin is super sensitive, no way it would end well.

I had it done once and need to go again. It lasted about 4-5 months for me. I was very happy with it. I did my forehead and crows feet. It made my forehead look smoother but not frozen. It is a wierd sensation though to not be able to move your forehead

That is really interesting. When I first went into menopause, I was having a lot of problems with excessive sweating under my eyes, so bad, I was having problems seeing/wearing contacts. Botox was one thing brought up by my doctor if I continued having the problems. Luckily, the sweating issue has cleared up, but I always wondered about just how good it was for that issue.

As soon as I get those forehead lines I'm getting botox. We'll see how bad the crows feet are, and if they're bad, they're getting botoxed, to. But as I said earlier, I'd never ever touch my mouth area.

Not a fan of the botox look. It's become more common to just get the space between the eyes done (like Kate G's photo) & when I meet someone's who's done this, I become totally distracted at the non-moving space on their head, when I should be listening to what they are saying!

There was a recently published study that shows the Botulinum toxin can travel from the injection site, so I would also worry about the long-term safety of the product. I think the risk is small & I would probably use it for medical reasons, but I don't think its worth it for cosmetic reasons.

I don't need it but if I ever do - and I'm sure the day will come- I would do it. No reason to look old and frumpy before you have to!

Just be SURE to go to a legit place, preferably a dermatologist or a plastic surgeon. A former coworker of mine went to one of those illegal botox parties, where someone who thinks they know what they're doing did the injecting and the woman came away looking like she had had a stroke for about 3 months. One side of her face was expressionless and drooping. A nightmare! It did eventually return to normal. So please, don't look for a bargain!

Those iffy places scare me, not only can they deliver too much but using a needle could introduce all sorts of bacteria to the spot, never-mind Hepatitis or HIV. I was stunned when a Face Book friend was recently posting that she won a bottle of Botox and hypos at a Basket Bingo but didn't want them and was willing to give them away:scared1:

One thing I never skimp on is anything even remotely health related for myself and my family. I want to see degrees, board certifications, the works before anyone gets to touch me.... and I'm not even sure yet, just testing the water. I do seem to remember a Plastic Surgeon saying on TV somewhere that the 40's is the best time to start mini maintenance so things can be mildly tweaked and aging would look natural but be minimized. I did my 20's and they were fabulous, I have no desire to go back again... I think those woman who try in vain to re-do that age look a little 'off' so I know what some pps mean by 'the look'. Still, but my kids are getting older and soon I'll be hanging up the Mommy hat. I just don't necessarily want to wear my Mommy years on my face if that makes any sense.
