Does anyone have one and do they recommend it?

Right now I have the top of the line KitchenAid and hate it. It's a POS and it has started leaking from the bottom. Instead of repairing it, I want to buy a cheap dishwasher that will hold me over for a couple of years. I will be redoing my kitchen in another two years or so, so I don't want to spend a lot of money on a dishwasher. I would like to keep it around $500 and Best Buy has a Bosch on sale for under $500 with free installation.

Any other brands to recommend?

I have hard water if that matters.

You may want to try to do a search on "Bosch" on the disboards for a post that was in the last couple of weeks.

I think the comments were to the effect that they load differently, and less dishes fit in a bosch than the dishwashers that they replaced.

I hope the comment about the Kitchen Aid isn't true. I just went to Lowe's last night and bought a top of the line Kitchen Aid, the kind that is all stainless steel inside. I replace my maytag which I found to be a POC.

Not a dishwasheer but I do have bosch washer and dryer. I love them! We even had an issue with the detergent dispenser cracking and they replaced the entire control panel very easily and quickly.

Everyone I know who has a Bosch loves it. They are so quiet and they clean really well.

I have a 1yr old bosch and love it. However, for under $500, you are most likely getting the low-end one that is not a full stainless steel interior. The bottom is plastic. Also, I'm not sure if that particular model has the leak-guard either. Be sure to check out the specs before you commit.

And yes, the bosch fits less because of the way the soundproofing and drainage system work.

We have a Bosch. It is very quiet and does get the dishes clean. I agree it doesn't load as many dishes. I think it is shallower front to back than my old one.

I do like that you can put your "top rack only" items on top or bottom. Something to do with the way the heater is positioned- the heat is not concentrated on the bottom.

I really like my Bosch but it doesn't load the same as the Kenmore, which I also liked. It does clean well and it is extremely quiet. I also like the way it looks.

I have a Bosch and love it. Very quiet and dishes are always clean.

I've had my Bosch now for a couple of months and love it. It's actually the model with the plastic in the bottom but it cleans very well and soooo quiet! It does seem to hold less but I'm "learning" how to load it more efficiently now, so I'm quite happy with it.

I have the Bosch with the all stainless interior and love it. It's so quiet and cleans the dishes great. :)

It does hold less than my old dishwasher, but I'm okay with that since it's soooo much quieter.

We've had a Bosch for over 10 years. Only issue we have had is you have to pinch the clamp that holds the upper rack to the slider because sometimes the rack slips out of it. It is very quiet, and replaced a Maytag that leaked from one of the back rack supports. The screw holding the support must have been lose, and worked itself loose, allowing the rubber seal to fall off over about 10 years.
Would I buy it again? Well, based on it's performance, yes. But my mom just bought a bottom of the line Maytag, the $179 model, and it's just as quiet, and washes well. I could buy 3 new Maytags for what I paid for the Bosch. I've never had a service call on the Bosch, but with service calls running anywhere from $75 to $125, it almost makes sense to buy a cheap dishwasher and just replace it when a problem comes up.

We have both a Bosch clothes washer and a Bosch dish washer. The dish washer was installed last winter and there have been no issues at all with it. It is so quiet I have to look to see if the light is on that indicates it's running. The Bosh clothes washer is also very quiet.

I have a Bosch. It is very quiet as many have attested to here and cleans amazingly. I tend to get a little fed up with the racks on the bottom ..the clasps that they lock into pop out sometimes and getting them hooked back up is a pain. Last dishwasher for me was a Kitchen Aid (Superba??) and I really liked that one too. This one does clean better tho...and so it should for what it cost!:confused3

We had a Top of the line Bosch in our last house. It was great for the first year or so and then the buttons started to break. It still cleaned really well, but it wasn't as quiet as it used to be and we could only use a couple of the cycles because of the broken buttons. I have an ASKO now and I hate it.

We are on a well, so we also have hard water. Our Bosch dishwasher is about three years old and here's my pro/con list:

Pros:

Cleans REALLY well
Super quiet (I have to look at the lights to see if it's running!)

Cons:

The racks are too flimsy for my taste
The silverware rack is too small

Would we buy it again? Maybe not. I'd certainly look at other options before buying again. The racks are a real sticking point with me.

I hope the comment about the Kitchen Aid isn't true. I just went to Lowe's last night and bought a top of the line Kitchen Aid, the kind that is all stainless steel inside. I replace my maytag which I found to be a POC.

I ended up buying another KitchenAid! :o

I looked at Boschs, but the interior of the dishwasher was too small for our needs.

I also looked at Maytags, but the salesperson recommended KA over Maytag.

Thanks for all the responses. :)

I feel pretty dumb right now. I just bought all new appliances for my kitchen remodel. I don't have a clue what the brand is. But they look good! Anything has to be better than the really old, builder's grade dishwasher (maybe 20 years old) that I am replacing.

I need to replace the dw in my New Orleans place too. It is only 5 years old (Katrina age) but does not get my dishes clean. After you have a a dw that cleans stuff that you just put in there it is hard to go back to those that require scouring before placement in the dw.

... it almost makes sense to buy a cheap dishwasher and just replace it when a problem comes up.

This is what I'm thinking right about now. My 3 yr. old Whirlpool just died and two repairman visits and $85 later, he says it's the motor. It would be more expensive to repair than just replace it. It wasn't inexpensive when we bought it and although it cleaned well and was super quiet, I've hated it since day one. It can take three hours to run a load! We figured out it was because the water had to reach a certain temperature before it would start and that took awhile because we don't have instant hot water.

I don't even know if I can find any machine to bypass that issue but if so I'm sure it will be an inexpensive one without any bells or whistles.

Right now I'm leaning towards not replacing it at all.....we've been washing dishes by hand and at least my useless dishwasher makes a great drying rack!:rotfl:
