Borrowing question

We bought in to DVC when we were at WDW in February and, not thinking we would be taking another trip this year, banked our 200 points straight away.

Now we are thinking of taking a short trip in August. Have booked the 3 night Wonder cruise and got 5 nights booked at ASMu with free dining.

BUT, we are thinking we may bly in a few days before the cruise and stay at DVC (pref our home resort of SSR but anywhere we can get in really). However, here's my question. Given that we banked our 2006/07 points, we can't now use those for a ressie, right? So we would need to borrow from 2007/08 (Sep use year). Once that reservation is made, though, if we needed to cancel those points could not be returned to the following use year, is that correct?

I suppose what I'm really saying is do we need to make sure our plans are 100% firm before we think about booking our DVC stay?

As simpilotswife posted "yes and yes". If you had to cancel the August reservation, you'd probably end up losing the points (they'd expire on 9/1/2007). It can be very hard to rent a reservation at the last minute and borrowed points cannot be transferred.
