Hi, I was wondering say if I made a booking using present use year points and borrowed points from the next use year on a reservation at 11 months and at 7 months changed my booking to a resort that uses less points am I able to have the borrowed points kept on the reservation rather than the points from the present use year so I can bank the points no longer needed?

I hope I have wrote that so it makes sense, I am not very good at explaining myself.

You should be able to do that, however be very clear to the CM and explain which points you want to use when you phone to change at 7 months.

The only thing you need to keep in mind is the banking rules (ie, bank the points at least 4 months before the end of your use year).

Thanks for this question and answer - I had been wondering the same thing myself! :thumbsup2

I'm not sure that you can, but I would call member services and ask. As soon as you borrow the points to make the booking you won't be able to return those points to their original use year, they would remain in the use year of the booking.

What you might be able to do, depending on timescale, is have points from the current use year released when you make the change and then bank those into next year.

i am not too sure that you can re bank borrowd points,so you would get your normal points for this year back and you would be able to bank then while useing them next year.would always check which points there using as sometimes there is confusion in MS

Yes I am sure you could bank current year points if ressie is less than the original one that also used borrowed points.

but you might not be able to bank the borowed ones? like banked points can not be returned to the use year

Correct you cannot bank borrowed points but you could bank unused current UY points and still use borrowed points.

As said earlier just check which points MS are reallocating to the new booking and insist that borrowed points are used first leaving any spare points as current UY that can then be banked.

Borrowed points cannot be returned to their original use year. Once borrowed, they stay in the use year into which they were borrowed. If not used by then, they expire.

Paulieuk1969 is 100% correct and gave good advice. Be sure to tell the CM to use the borrowed points up first on the new reservation. (They are supposed to do this but do not always follow procedures). Any remaining points from the current use year may be banked (subject to the banking deadline). You cannot "bank" borrowed points back into their original use year.

Before you hang up (from any transaction with MS) ask the CM to review the status of your points. If the result doesn't match your expectations, you have the opportunity to fix it right there. It is a lot easier to get bad things fixed when they happen.
