Borrowing and booking question

Not sure if I'm gonna word this right - but here goes:

We are adding on some points at BLT. We are adding 140 points so that we can use the current year, borrow from the next year and have enough points to stay when we want. We own 300 at AKL.

With the BLT add on we are doing it so that we can have the 11 month advantage. If I need say 270 points for a reservation that I make 11 months in advance (140 current, 130 borrowed) when It comes time for the actual reservation and I have 130 of my AKL points, can I use those and then still have my 130 BLT points for next year?

Sorry if this makes no sense. If someone does understand what I'm asking and knows the answer I'd sure appreciate some help!

Thanks!

Once points are borrowed, they can not be returned. So, if you borrowed 130 2010 points for a 2009 vacation from BLT, you would not be able to put them back.

However, what you might be able to do is have your AKL points replace the current year BLT points (if there is availability) and then bank those current year points. Here is how it might work:

2009 Trip - 140 BLT points from 2009 and 130 BLT points from 2010

At the 7 month mark, you call to see if there is availablity. If so, you swap out the 140 2009 points with the AKL points. The 2009 points go back into you account and bank them into 2010. You end up using your 2010 BLT points and 2009 AKL points. This is all assuming that you are in your banking window.

I am new member and of course, may not have complete understanding and I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. Also, you might have to book it so it was actually two separtate but linked reservations so that what you are doing is swapping reservations, not necessarily the points.

just to clarify, you are not "swapping out" points, you would be canceling the reservation made with BLT points and rebooking with AKL points at 7 months.

you've got the right idea, but IMO the language is a little misleading.

Thanks. I "think" I understand but probably wont until the first time I try to do it and really screw it up. I will definitely understand then!

Technically you are correct but MS has the ability to leave the reservation intact and just reallocate the points. The reservation number would stay the same.
