Hi all-a borrowed points question: I made a reservation (using my remaining banked pts ) during Magic season and had to borrow a small number of pts (Oct U/Y) . I changed the week to Dream season (less pts needed) so I now have 7 borrowed points left over in my account.
I'm assuming I can't bank the 7 borrowed pts back, so can I transfer these to another member?
If not, please advise me as to what I can do w/these 7 pts?

thanks so much:goodvibes

To be transferrable, points must have never been banked, borrowed or previously transferred. So sadly you can not transfer these borrowed points.

To be bankable, points must have never been borrowed, banked or in holding status. Transferred points can be banked, and Holding Points can be transferred. You must also be within your banking windows, and have not exceeded banking percentage limits.

To be borrowable, points must have never been previously, banked, borrowed, transferred, folded, spindled or multilated.

Here is a simple overview of the banking/borrowing/transferring process:

Also, you can only transfer once per Use Year, and the receiver can only transfer once per Use Year.

If you have more points to borrow, you can make a ressie for someone.

The other option is reallocation.

PLEASE, make sure you get an experienced Advisor before attempting reallocation, it can be a challenge.

Basically, they will try and use your borrowed points against an existing ressie, and free up normal points which you could bank (if in your window) or transfer.

It gets complex if the original ressie was an 11 month Home Resort Window, whereas a 7 month or less booking is easy to reallocate.

Best of luck!

No, borrowed points may not be transferred.

The only thing you can do with those points is use them to make a reservation. Since 7 points isn't enough for one night anywhere, you'd have to borrow more to make a reservation. If you can't extend your upcoming trip by one day and won't make another trip before the end of your use year, my advice is to just let the 7 points expire.

Did you have any current year points in the reservation? If so, they could free those up and keep the borrowed points in the reservation. Then you can bank the current year points.

Unfortunately no, the points I had were banked points from the previous year.

As for renting off these 7 points (with a few more borowwed from next U/Y), is it uncommon to find a renter who wants a one or two night stay? I've rented in the past and I just took a quick look at the rental boards. It seems most familiies are looking for five + nights.

You used banked and borrowed points only in this reservation? That would be odd. What happened to the current use year points, had you banked them to next year already. I'd call MS and ask them to look at your situation and see if they can help. If you get someone who seems unhelpful or not knowledgeable, call back. If they offer you a once in a life time exception, say no, it's not worth it for 7 points. You can always rent them by reserving one night in a studio which someone else would be able to link to another reservation. You could also stay an extra day on the upcoming trip.

How on earth did you only use banked and borrowed points for a ressie? What happened to the current year's points?

This is my first year (VWL). I bought 150 pts and received 150 2005 pts too which DVC immediatley banked. So I now had to use 300 pts in one year - too much for me ( or bank again of course). So I transferred the current 150 to another member through the Dis, which left me w/only 150 banked pts in the account.

Dean, I assumed my only option was to stay another night (I like that idea but it would mean another weekend night of points). However, if I could rent one studio night that would be better. I didn't think that was an option.
