For those out there who have taken a book on the cruise =

1. What book(s) do you take?

2. How many do you take?

3. Was it enough for you?

I take books. If you have not read "100 Years of Solitude " by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, there is just NOT a better book to read when you are hot, steamy and over-humidified. HOWEVER, do I ever get much reading done on a cruise? Nah. Bring something mindless and easy. I usually only manage to get a few pages of some tripe mystery read. Spend most of my time mindlessly staring at the ocean.

I love Patricia Cornwell's books!!! Great murder mystery thrillers. Think Quincy with a leading lady. Its also very important to read her books in sequence as they build on each other and sometimes the same serial killer comes back 2 or 3 books down the road.

p.s. For anyone going on the Panama Canal cruise, you should definitely read "Path Between the Seas" by David McCullough!!! I am reading it now for our cruise in Jan & it is truly fascinating!!!
I've also heard that "Panama Canal by Cruise ship" by Anne Vipond is good for this cruise.

I would recommend SKINNY DIP.

This is a new book on the bestseller list. It is a mystery that starts out on a cruise ship.

I read both and WOW! The Path Between the Seas is SO detailed...It covers anything you ever wanted to know and more. The PC by cruise ship hit the historical high points PLUS discussed in nice detail the ports of call you'll likely encounter in that part of the world...All in a single book! I feel so proud of myself....
Now, back to my trashy fiction...:hyper:

Actually I'm LtG but my DW is logged in and I can't get her logged out.

We just got back yesterday. I brought two books (about 150-200 pages eaxh) and I finished both, "Eaters of the Dead" and "Miami Blues". I bought the most recent Tom Clancy book on the ship. There is not a large selection of books available on the ship so make sure you bring enough.

The book "Valhalla Riding" by Clive Cussler has a good description of a fire aboard a cruise ship and I thought about it more then once on board.

pirate: Arragh, so thar be me thoughts on high seas readin. By t' way September 19 be International Talk Like a Pirate Day

Last January I brought the Da Vinci code and it was a fast read. I am getting Skinny Dip for DW as a Christmas present for the January cruise. Don't know what I will be bringing yet. but yes, I do bring a book and enjoy reading on the cruise. Nice at night on the verandah while our son was sleeping or in the morning before everyone was up yet, watching the sun rise.

I agree with abitjaded...bring something mindless. I am the type of person who gets hooked on a book and ignores everything around me till I finish it . When on a cruise I want to enjoy the
cruise not the book so I need a book I won't mind stopping in the middle of. Plus there seems to be alot of distractions when you are just laying out in the sun.

So for me I like something light like Janet Evanovich or a "trashy" romance. Nothing that I have to think to much about. A book I can read a few pages and put down easily while I go grab some more food!!

I usually read 2 books between traveling to PC and the cruise.
