Books for Soldiers

Anyone ever donate thru them? I have a bunch of paperbacks to get rid of. I'd hate to just toss 'em.

Does anyone know of any other organizations that accept books?

Yes, I've donated to them, through my sister-in-law. I think we gave about 60 books. It seems like a very good cause, I wouldn't hesitate to donate to them.

Go to your local church and ask if they know someone who is sending care packages to the military. Look in you phonebook to see if you have a USO near by. They can always use books. See if you have a veteran's hospital in the area and ask if they would like to have them or aks if they know a person who can get them to the military.

I found someone just standing in line at the post office who was sending a box to someone and asked if she would like books I had around the house. She gave me her number so I can get the books to her.

I don't know of any organizations sending books to soldiers but my library accepts them. They either add them to their circulation or sell them on a rack in the lobby. I've also sent them to the senior citizen's center. Goodwill and the Salvation Army will accept donations to sell at their thrift shops.

I have donated through them too. The only thing is that to become a member you have to get a statement notarized affirming who you are. It is for the safety of the troops and I had no issue with doing it, but I can see where some people might consider it a hassle. I haven't sent anything in a while because I found myself always wanting to send "just a little more" stuff and it was getting quite expensive.

I'm not really looking to give them to anyone who will re-sell them. I'm looking to donate to someone who will USE them. I have my friend checking with the cubscouts and boyscouts to see if they're interested in donating.

I know that anysoldier.com did say on their website that they accept books & magazines.
