Hi - this is my first time over on the community board and I'm after some non-Disney advice!

I have two cousins and I want to buy them some books for Christmas this year, they're both boys aged 4 and 6.

Can anyone recommend some good titles?

Thanks in advance

Clare

Dr. Seuss always go down well with the 6 year old boys at school. Especially Green Eggs and Ham or the Cat in the Hat.

Thomas the Tank Engine was my personal favorite when I was younger. :)

The 4 year old may like the guffalo and even the 6 year old may like it.

I totally back the horrid Henry series, my son loves them, also Flanimals by Ricky Gervias, The Horrible History series (educational and fun) and Enid Blytons Secret Seven series - always a classic

These books are brilliant and quite often are "3 for 2" at Waterstones. They will be enjoyed by both ages.

The Gruffalo is also an excellent book for the 4 year old along with any of the other books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

My boys are 5 and 8. They both love books. The 5 yr old loves the Little Red Train books by Benedict Blathwayt, Bob the Builder and Thomas the Tank Engine, also Percy the Park Keeper. Older boy likes Horrid Henry, Dr Who stories, Pirates, depends if the boy is an independent reader... maybe a book and tape if not?

DW loved the Twits as a child, has DD Beth 7 reading it at the moment.

Anyone else had the Usbourne book of Bedtime Stories?? Our Ds loves it we gave it to him when he was about 3 but he still reads it (now almost 7) and some of the story books he brings home from school have the same stories in, which he finds amusing ( he reads at level 7 with ease). He also loves Dr Seuss stories and traditional stories.

Have the got the Jolly postman, the jolly Christmas postman and the Jolly Pocket Postman by the Allhbergs (sp)?

Wow - some great suggestions! I'll print this out and take it shopping :)

My DS has always loved Horrid Henry and the Jolly Postman series are just so sweet they are almost too nice for children :)

Hi there, :wave2:

My son loves the Horrid Henry books too, "the Book People" - (look on line) - are doing a pack of books - 10 I think for a silly low price.

Also- via the wh smith website - you can get a personalised book. Mine was delivered the other day - its great!

You pick the colour of the childs hair, clothing, the teachers and headteachers name, 2 friends names, the road name etc and it all gets printed in the book in a story. There are a few stories to choose from. It was £14 I think but well worth it - a lovely keepsake for when they are older too.

I love books, I'm always buying them.

Another option would be "red nose reader" books for the younger. First story books for them to read themselves all with funny and silly things that kids love. Mine still reads them now at age 6+.
