Newbie question..... Got BLT tower contract. 200 points

2019 - 0
2020 - 400 (200 Banked)
2021 - 200

Use Year August.

Looking at buying another 100 BLT contract.

2019 - 0
2020 - 200 (100 banked)
2021 - 100

Use year December.

I get that if I want to use December I have to transfer the points to my August membership.

However, if I want to book BLT in Jan 2021, and I need say 500 points, do I have to WAIT until December 2020 when my next allotment comes or can I book in advance even though I haven't had the points yet?

Or does DVC know I am getting the August 400 points and the December 200 points automatically and allows me to make January 2021 using 500 points?

I dont want to borrow from future year use

Thanks in advance.

It’s all based on travel and not when you book. So, yes, you can book any reservation 11 months in advance,

Just know that when you transfer, the points are only valid to be used by calling so that means you lose the hour of online booking.

Any modifications to the resort also need to be done via MS, And the transferred points would still maintain their own UY and Follow their own banking rules,

Also, only current UY points can be transferred.

Thanks. The booking in relaity wont make any different. I would book 11 months out 3 weeks (1BR probably) in January.
But then at month 7 I would change booking to have 1 at say VGF and 1 stay at SSR. I want to try different resorts........

Thanks!

You may then not want to alway transfer, I have 3 UY and just book different trips on each one,

Unless you need to combine for a single reservation, keeping points in each membership allows you to book and modify online.

Having to call could make a difference in getting your trade or not.

Thanks all. I was going to book 3 consecutive weeks at 1 resort, so my understanding is I can book Week 1 at 11 months in advance, but not weeks 2 or 3. That has to be at the end of each week?

Yes, If your plan is to split stay, make sure you book them as different reservations vs, modifying and just adding days to get one long 21 day reservation at the end of each week,

This way, you can modify online....assuming no transferred points used...each one,

If they are all in one big one, it can’t be split later without canceling night first and then trying to book what you want,

Booking trends are going to be different in the next year or two with the closing and more people having points, so you want to maximizs your chances to get what you want to change to at 7 months.

Sure. So make 3 individual bookings then I can change each one at month 7 for other resorts, right?
Thanks in advance. Im still 100 points short for BLT for August - trying to find a decent contract!

Yes, that is the best way to be able to change things around! I’ll be in search of BLT come summer once I close on the sale of my BWV!,

Good luck!

Ah, I search around 10 different broker sites twice a day. Good luck to us both!

You need to be very careful with transfers because you cannot transfer banked or borrowed points and you cannot borrow transferred points. So if you transfer your Dec UY points to your Aug UY, you cannot use them for a reservation before Dec of that year. This would be like Dec 2020 transferred to Aug 2020. You could use Dec 2019 transferred to Aug 2020, but you still have to use those transferred points before Nov, 30, 2020 unless you banked them into the Dec 2020 UY. Transferred points retain their resort and UY.

The fact that you need clarification should be reason enough to forego buying a December contract. I recommend you buy another Aug contract as the management is much easier since you already own BLT. It's very hard to justify buying a different UY for the same resort you already own.
